Unanet offers project-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions targeted to government contractors, professional services and architecture and engineering firms. We’ve reviewed its Unanet A/E solution, so this review will focus on its ERP for professional services companies.
Unanet helps enterprise professional services teams keep track of project portfolios. It combines the Professional Services Automation (PSA) software with the Project Portfolio Management (PPM) solution, so users can plan all facets of their projects in one place.
Unanet standardizes the processes for managing critical projects and helps align employees with corporate goals. By keeping a complete record of these standard processes, it helps companies forecast the return on future projects as well.
Features
Unanet has many features. Here are some of its key ones.
Project management – The software has robust project management features, such as approval workflows with built-in changes, a Gantt chart view with dependency relationships and critical paths, the ability to create projects with flexible business rules and budget/scheduling management.
Resource planning – Managers are able to forecast the progress of projects, then allocate and schedule resources for each day. Employees are color coded in the system based on how booked they are with work. Percentages also show when it may be required to shift tasks to others with the same skill set. The solution keeps a record of employees’ unique talents and qualifications, and it can be used to track credentials for hiring purposes.
Online billing – Project managers can access billing and invoicing information, including reviewing invoice drafts, making changes and communicating those changes to Accounting.
Work orders – The work orders feature uses a Kanban-style board, which includes predefined information (e.g., project codes, billing status) within a tasks, so employees won’t need to manually enter their time. Instead, they simply go to their assigned work orders and enter status updates. The time can then be charged to the work order automatically or the employee can opt to reference the work order number in the timesheet that is automatically populated with data from the work order.
Reporting and analtyics – Real-time reports allow managers to compare forecasted budgets to actual budgets at any time, rather than waiting for monthly or quarterly reports. Unanet offers a vast range of reporting features and allows clients to customize report templates.
Time and expense tracking – Unanet has an integrated web-based timesheet system for professional services firms that need to track project labor. Its features include flexible business rules, the ability to manage approvals, time sheet defaults and the ability to add projects by GPS location. Employees can also fill out and submit expense reimbursement forms for approval.
Financials – The Unanet Financials solution provides general and project-based accounting features, such as a general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and purchasing. Project managers can also track revenue, indirect costs and other financial metrics. The software supports multiple locations and currencies.

Unanet offers the Unanet Go pre-configured implementation service that combines its software with pre-built tools and processes, so clients can get up and running quickly. It also has custom implementation packages that’s designed to fit a client’s specific needs. In addition to implementation, Unanet provides product optimization, integration and technical consulting and pre-packaged analytical services.

Unanet offers three support plans. The Standard plan is included with the subscription and has the services mentioned above. The Premium plan has all of the features of the Standard plan, plus 24/7 live support and an unlimited number of authorized contacts. The Signature plan adds on operational support from 8:30 AM to 7:30 PM EST (Monday to Friday) on services, such as monthly check-ins with an assigned consultant, an annual software usage review and month-end and year-end close assistance.
