Product Overview
BQE Software’s BillQuick is an integrated project management software that also includes accounting, billing and time-tracking functionalities. It’s offered both on-premise and in the cloud, so companies have a choice of deployment based on their needs.
There are two BillQuick products available:
- BillQuick: BillQuick is the on-premise version with three separate editions (Basic, Pro and Enterprise). It’s scalable for any sized business.
- BillQuick Online: BillQuick Online is the cloud version for companies that don’t have the desire or the resources to host data and maintain servers.
BillQuick can also be integrated with accounting systems, such as Intuit QuickBooks and Sage.
As mentioned above, BillQuick’s on-premise deployment is broken up into three versions – Basic, Pro and Enterprise. Here, we take a brief look at each:
- Basic: The Basic version is intended for up to four users. It has many features such as the ability to import/export data, multiple currency support, a Microsoft Access database, customizable reports and invoices, and Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) compliance with a single click. Other features include electronic invoices, batch invoices, automatic billing, 500+ report templates and role-based security.
- Pro: The Pro version can accommodate up to 20 users. It includes all of the Basic features, plus a Microsoft SQL Express database, the ability to create and assign tasks, mobile functionality, the ability to attach files and URLs to records, and support for credit card payments, among other features. In addition, the Pro version gives users access to Gantt charts, custom PDF invoices and a dashboard for key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Enterprise: The Enterprise version accepts an unlimited number of users. In addition to the Basic and Pro features, it includes a Microsoft SQL server database, custom fields, a collection center and automatic payment receipts. This version also offers users the ability to drill down details of job costs, a project center, due-date alerts and personal time-off management, along with many other features.
We also want to point out BQE’s flagship product, BQE Core, which is a cloud-based, business management software. Companies can track all of its financial, project management, HR and other tasks from a single platform. Some of BQE Core’s project management features include intelligent monitoring, resource management, project accounting, analytics and time/expense tracking.
Features
BillQuick has a variety of project management features. Users can manage projects and resources in real time, keep track of team members and projects (via color-coded assignments and calendars), and attach documents and images to records.
Users can also track employee time via a calendar, spreadsheet or stopwatch. Time sheets can be automatically populated with data on projects based on the previous week. And managers and employees can use BillQuick to track overtime, sick leave and vacation balances.
In addition to project management and time tracking, BillQuick focuses on accounting and billing. Some of its accounting and billing features include:
- A collection center where users can access information on payment history, account notes and other details
- At least 100 standard and customizable invoice templates, and the ability to email invoices in PDF, Excel or Word
- Ability to track multiple entries in one accounting file
- Accessible accounting journal entries and reports, such as profit and loss, balance sheets and cash accurals
- Ability to process credit card payments and import credit card transactions
- Ability to write checks and reconcile bank accounts
BillQuick also has a Reporting Center where users can create reports from over 500 templates. They can also customize their own reports with a company logo, company colors, etc. In addition, reports can be reused (or “memorized” as BillQuick refers to it) for the future, as well as tagged as favorites. And users can customize their dashboards to display KPIs.
Target Market
BQE targets professional service firms, IT consultancies, architecture and engineering, government, legal and accounting. It doesn’t release customer names, so please contact the vendor for client references.

BQE has four different implementation packages. They are:
- Quick Start Implementation: For companies that want to learn about the software more efficiently, this package offers 10 hours of personalized training on foundation setup, project setup, preferences setup, billing, and time and expenses.
- Professional Implementation: The Professional implementation plan includes all of the features of the Quick Start Implementation plan, plus a two-hour personalized needs analysis and an additional four hours of training of the client’s choice. The personalized needs analysis consists of a questionnaire about the client’s billing and project management processes, followed by a discussion of the client’s workflow and needs.
- Elite Implementation: Along with the services offered in the Professional plan, the Elite implementation kit includes training on project management and accounting features. There’s also a four-hour training on billing follow-up.
- Promise Implementation: The Promise implementation takes approximately four weeks from start to finish. Here, the client works with a dedicated BQE account manager. The plan includes the services in the Elite package, plus a two-hour discussion of the solution implementation timeline and data migration. Clients also receive coaching through the first billing process and weekly post-implementation follow-ups for four weeks.
