Zenefits At A Glance
Product Overview
Zenefits is an all-encompassing, cloud-based HR suite that improves efficiency by automating key tasks related to payroll, benefits, performance, compliance and more. This review will focus on the features and benefits of Zenefits’ performance management module. It’s available on the Growth and Zen pricing tiers. For more information about Zenefits’ full HR functionality, read our Zenefits HRMS Review.
The Zenefits performance management module enables organizations to streamline their review processes. Employees can create achievable goals and stay on top of their progress, while managers can gather feedback from colleague using 360-degree reviews. Zenefits also support continuous performance management, allowing managers to provide informal feedback throughout the year.
The software has numerous benefits, including:
- The ability to complete performance reviews anywhere via the Zenefits mobile app
- Built-in templates that can be customized to fit a company’s unique needs
- Integration with the Zenefits platform and other third-party applications
Features
Here are the three key performance management features.
Goal management – Employees can set their own goals that align with team or company objectives. They can track each goal’s progression, and that can then be integrated into their performance reviews. Once an employee reaches a targeted goal, the goal can be marked as “close”.
Performance reviews – Managers can set up review cycles based on desired frequency (e.g., annually, quarterly). Zenefits has prebuilt review templates that support various formats, such as 360-degree feedback and self evaluations, but managers can also create their own forms and save them for future use. Employees can easily fill out their self evaluations from any device, and managers can compile any 360-degree feedback into employees’ evaluations. Reviews can be exported to Excel or PDF, as well as added to each individual employee’s Zenefits profile.
One-on-one meetings – Managers can start one-on-one conversations with employees within the software. They can create and share an agenda ahead of meetings, and both parties can get reminders the day before meetings and add shared action items during meetings. There’s also a private note feature for capturing notes or follow-ups.
Target Market
Prospects can sign up for a demo account and Zenefits’s support team will work with companies one on one to start the implementation process.
Each company is assigned a support representative as a main contact. The company will continue to work with that representative from the initial set-up process to launch and training to periodic software/account maintenance.

Shortcomings
Zenefits is a growing company that recognizes its software limitations, and it’s diligently working to expand its features. Once bugs are found in the software, the support team quickly sets to work to fix the issues.
That said, some customers reported that their assigned representatives were difficult to reach during implementation, resulting in missed deadlines for insurance open enrollment. Other customers mentioned that Zenefits’ initial implementation support was good, but representatives became distant after launch.
