Genius Project At A Glance

Good: Strong collaboration functionality, scalable and customizable to fit a business's needs, ability to store and edit all project-related documents in a single repository.
Bad: Too powerful for businesses that only require a few features, only corporate email addresses (not Gmail) recognized for free trial signup.
Bottom Line: End-to-end project management solution that's built to adapt to each business.

Product Overview offers two types of project management solutions: its flagship product Genius Project and Cerri Enterprise Apps. Although we’ll mention Cerri Enterprise Apps, the focus of this review will be on Genius Project.

Genius Project is an enterprise project and planning management solution designed to track all aspects of a project from start to finish. It can be deployed both in the cloud and on-premise.

Clients can choose to host and maintain the solution on their servers or access it on the Web and have Genius Project host the data for them. Companies that work with Lotus Notes can have Genius Project installed there as well. It’s also available as a mobile app on iOS and Android devices.

Genius Project can be customized to fit a company’s needs and processes. For example, its workflow engine can be tailored to fit specific job roles, and it can be scaled for use by companies with multiple locations and in multiple languages. The solution can also be customized for specific industries such as health care, professional services, higher education and manufacturing.

Genius Project integrates with many different systems, including customer relationship management (CRM) systems, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, Lotus Notes, SAP, Oracle, Salesforce, Sage and more. It can also integrate with Microsoft Office (Microsoft Project) and Google Apps.

Because it integrates with many third-party applications, users won’t have to worry about manually entering data or creating reports in multiple systems.

Genius Project benefits everyone from project managers to executives, to team members to stakeholders. For instance, an executive can evaluate any project requests and decide how they fit the business’ objectives. Executives can also access details of the project for transparency.

Other benefits of Genius Project include easier sharing and collaboration, improved productivity and the ability to anticipate any budgeting or other issues early in the process.

Genius Project is also tailored to IT departments. It supports IT governance and Agile/SCRUM methodology.

Genius Project provides customers with a 15-day free trial. Companies opting for the cloud deployment method can choose from three pricing plans (Standard, Professional and Enterprise).

We want to briefly mention Cerri Enterprise Apps. The apps are designed for businesses that don’t need a full-featured project management solution. Cerri focuses primarily on tasks. Tasks can be created through an email request, then assigned to team members and accessed anywhere at any time. Like Genius Project, Cerri is deployed both in the cloud and on-premise.

Genius Project includes many features (e.g., Gantt charts, project planning and tracking, budgeting, time and expense tracking), and we’ve indicated several of them in the checkboxes below. However, we want to point out some of its key features:

Genius Project has a strong focus on social collaboration. The Genius Live! platform is similar to a social media tool in that users can discuss their projects via threads. And users can track all activity and documents for specific projects using a social-media-like wall. Users can share files as well. Project managers can also collaborate with external users (such as clients) within the solution.

Another key feature of Genius Project is document management. As projects often involve many documents, storing them together is important. Genius Project is compatible with many different file formats (e.g., Excel, Word, Adobe), and it even provides predefined document templates.

Documents can also be edited within Genius Project. Users can share documents, as well as attach files and comments to any document.

Genius Project has a role-based customizable workflow engine. Users can set the criteria of the workflow that best fits the needs of their projects (such as automatic email notification, approval process and task assignments). Genius Project also provides standard workflows as well as workflows targeted for new product development.

Since projects can have risks and their scopes can constantly change, Genius Project includes a risk and change management feature. Executives and project managers can evaluate each risk of a project and the impact it could have. They can also track issues and changes for projects, as well as evaluate any positive and negative impact each change has on the project.

Finally, here are some additional key features of Genius Project:

  • 100 percent configurable dashboard and built-in report generator (creating reports in PDF and Excel formats)
  • Resource management
  • Invoicing

  • Budget & Expense Management?
  • Collaboration?
  • File Sharing?
  • Gantt Charts?
  • Mobile?
  • Task Management?
  • Time Tracking?
