PurelyHR At A Glance

Good: 360-degree feedback shared privately or publicly, ability for employees to set and track goals, customizable review templates.
Bad: Some typical performance management features (e.g., one-on-one meetings, reporting) are not currently offered.
Bottom Line: A performance management module that enables SMBs to move from paper reviews to an automated process.

Product Overview

PurelyHR is a leave management solution that includes features like a staff directory, onboarding, time-off requests and more. This review focuses on its new Performance module.

PurelyHR’s Performance module helps small and midsized businesses (SMBs) streamline their performance review processes. The software supports continuous feedback, so employees can get valuable feedback anytime – but it also accommodates companies that prefer the traditional annual or semiannual review process.

Other benefits of the Performance module are:

  • Ability to create review templates and schedule automated reminders
  • An intuitive interface with minimal training required
  • Companies won’t need to purchase a dedicated performance management solution
  • Integration with other PurelyHR modules and third-party applications

Features

The Performance module has three main features: Goals, 360-Degree Feedback and Performance Reviews. We’ve detailed each one below.

Goals – Managers can assign specific goals for employees that include action plans. Employees can also create a goal, track its progress throughout the year and send periodic updates to their manager. The manager or employees can add comments to each goal, and PurelyHR sends reminders if a goal doesn’t show any progress or needs to be reviewed.

360-Degree Feedback – With this feature, employees can share feedback about their manager or peers. They can decide whether to send the feedback to the recipient privately, to the recipient and their manager or to the entire team. Employees can also write out feedback about their own performance and save it privately or share it with their manager.

Performance Reviews – Users can build a review template by using preset questions or adding in their own. They can choose a specific competency (e.g., Leadership, Teamwork) that’s associated with each question and indicate if a question is mandatory. Users can also set the frequency of the reviews and schedule automated email reminders. Finally, this feature pulls in relevant data on employees from other modules to support their reviews. For example, it can add in an employee’s skills from the Skills module or records of any infractions from the Warnings module.

Target Market

PurelyHR targets small and midsized businesses in many different industries. We’ve listed 10 of its clients below.

  • Biodynamic Research Corporation (BRC)
  • Dell
  • Heart & Stroke Foundation
  • Lindt
  • Parrot
  • Prostate Cancer Canada
  • Quality Logo Products (QLP)
  • University of Toronto
  • Versature
  • Worldpay

Implementation/Integration

Clients can sign up for a 21-day free trial and choose the modules they want to use. Once their trial ends, they can select a monthly or annual billing option. PurelyHR offers a free onboarding session to help train larger teams on the software.

The software integrates with calendars (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Google Calendar, Apple Calendar), payroll software and other third-party applications.

Customer Service & Support

Users can browse articles in the help center and contact support by phone or email during regular business hours.

Pricing

PurelyHR offers monthly and annual billing based on the number of employees at the company. For example, a company with 25 employees could pay $13.50 per month (annual billing) or $15 per month (monthly billing) for the Staff module. Additional modules, such as Performance, Time Off, Time Clock, Time Sheet, Warnings and Talent, cost extra and pricing varies per module (e.g., Performance is priced at an additional $2.52 per employee, per month for a company with 25 employees).

Shortcomings

Because the Performance module is still new, it doesn’t have some traditional performance management features, like one-on-one meetings or reporting. However, those features may be available down the road.
