Workful At A Glance

Good: Single dashboard for accessing all payroll tasks, reduced data entry, all-inclusive pricing.
Bad: Not intended for medium or large organizations.
Bottom Line: All-in-one software that combines payroll and HR tasks so small businesses can focus on growing their companies.

Product Overview

Workful is a payroll and HR solution that helps small businesses run their operations more efficiently. With it, businesses can process payroll, track their employees’ time and approve expense reimbursements. They can also access all of their payroll and HR tasks from a single dashboard.

Workful has several benefits, including:

  • Streamlined administrative processes, such as built-in time collection methods
  • Ability to run payroll anytime, anywhere
  • Direct deposit and online paystubs that cut down on paper records
  • All-inclusive pricing that starts with a 30-day free trial
  • Flexible customer support (e.g., live chat, email, phone)

Features

Workful has time tracking features that sync with payroll so that no manual data entry is required. The administrator just needs to approve any payroll data adjustments before processing. Workful contends that its payroll process takes less than five minutes.

The software also automatically calculates payroll taxes and reminds business owners when it’s time for filing and payments. It generates year-end forms (e.g., W-2, 1099-MISC, Form 941, Form 940) and automatically prepopulates data in federal tax forms. Workful provides step-by-step guides to help owners file their state taxes timely and accurately. In addition, Workful now offers full-service tax filings in five states (FL, TX, SC, CA and GA). For companies in those states, Workful can make tax payments and file payroll tax forms on their behalf.

The employee self-service features include time off and expense reimbursement requests and updated tax withholding information. Employees can also clock in and out via the mobile app. Managers get a real-time view of who’s currently on the clock and can make time clock adjustments as needed.

Workful has a built-in report library that includes expense and mileage, employee list, time sheet, payroll register detail and tax liability. The data is available in real time, ensuring owners have the most up-to-date information.

Other payroll features include direct deposit and multiple pay rates. Workful integrates with QuickBooks Online, so payroll expenses are updated in the financial records.

In addition to these payroll features, Workful offers other features like new hire onboarding and document management.

Implementation/Integration

Workful’s sales team helps new clients evaluate the program to ensure it’s a good fit for their needs. Then, the client will create an account and enter basic company information to initiate a 30-day free trial.

Workful has a free option for its onboarding team to enter company and employee data on the client’s behalf. If the Workful team enters this information, set up and implementation takes minutes. If the client chooses to add the information themselves, it can take one or two hours.

Customer Service & Support

Users can browse the help center for articles, submit feature requests and get product updates. They can also contact support by phone, email or live chat. Workful offers one-on-one training, webinars, videos and written tutorials, too.

Pricing

Workful has an all-inclusive price that starts at $35 per month, plus an additional $6 per employee, per month.

Shortcomings

Workful generally serves small businesses, and it’s not intended for larger organizations.
