Product Overview

Canon’s imageFORMULA R40 scanner is geared toward home and small businesses. At $247, it scans at up to 40 ppm (80 ipm in duplex) in black and 30 ppm (60ipm in duplex) in color. There’s an automatic document feeder that can hold up to 60 sheets. The maximum daily duty cycle is 4,000 pages.

Users can simply scan documents by pressing a button, and they can also program up to nine shortcuts for common workflows. The scanner weighs approximately six pounds, so it can easily fit onto a desktop. It support USB connectivity, but users can also scan files to a third-party cloud account, such as Google Drive, QuickBooks Online, Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive and more.

Features

The imageFORMULA R40 supports a wide range of documents, including ID cards, photos and receipts. The minimum document size is 2″ x 2.1″, while the maximum size is 8.5″ x 14″. There’s a long document mode of up to 118″. Users can scan files into any digital format, such as PDF or JPEG.

The imageFORMULA R40 includes numerous features, such as auto color detection, auto page size detection, background smoothing, color dropout, deskew, folio scan, image rotation, multistreaming, pre-scan, text enhancement and the ability to remove the background. Ultrasonic double-feed detection is also supported.

The scanner comes with a TWAIN driver and the Canon CaptureOnTouch software. It also includes (on Windows operating systems only) Readiris PDF software and Cardiris business card software.

Finally, there’s a one-year limited warranty, but Canon offers optional extended coverage.
