Product Overview

The Xerox Duplex Combo Scanner ($269.99) is a new device that combines a flatbed platen with an automatic document feeder (ADF) in one machine. It has a simplex speed of up to 25 ppm (in black and color) and a duplex speed of up to 50 ipm.

The Duplex Combo Scanner has an optical resolution of up to 600 dpi and interpolated resolution of up to 1,200 dpi. There is a 1,500-page daily duty cycle.

Similar to other Xerox scanners, the Duplex Combo Scanner includes Visioneer’s OneTouch technology that has customizable settings that streamline scanning workflows. For instance, it stores up to 9 preset scan jobs on a control panel, so a user can select any scanning jobs with a touch of a button.

Visioneer is a document imaging/scanner solutions company that has partnered with Xerox on its DocuMate scanner line since 2003.

Additional details on this scanner is in our Features section below.

The Duplex Combo Scanner is intended for small offices that already has a single-function printer and doesn’t have a need for an MFP or a workgroup scanner. At almost six pounds, it’s lightweight and compact to fit on any desk.

The ADF has a maximum capacity of 35 sheets. It accepts paper sizes from a minimum of 3″ x 5.9″ up to a maximum of 8.5″ x 118″. The flatbed platen has a maximum scan area of 8.5″ x 11.7.” Users can scan photos as well as documents, ID cards, or even hardbound books.

The Duplex Combo Scanner provides image enhancement features via Visioneer’s Acuity software. Such features include dynamic thresholding, removing shadows from images and straightening pages.

Custom color (up to 3) and multi-color dropout is supported. Roller-based page separation allows multiple pages to scan through and detects misfeeds. Double-feed detection is supported, and the scanner also detects if a paper is jammed or is dog-eared.

USB connectivity is standard.

In addition to OneTouch and Acuity, other bundled software includes Visioneer TWAIN DrvierPLUS, ABBYY Fine Reader Sprint and ABBYY Business Card Reader. Visioneer offers software for Mac devices, such as the TWAIN for Mac and Scan Utility for Mac.

Finally, there’s a three-year warranty.
