Verizon Connect At A Glance

Good: Integrated Video module that detects behaviors behind harsh driving events, customizable features, reduced operating costs.
Bad: Some users experience delays in customer support response, Integrated Video module doesn't support live streaming.
Bottom Line: Fleet management platform that empowers organizations to streamline processes, improve driver safety and comply with ELD mandates.

Product Overview

Verizon Connect is an integrated fleet management solution that helps organizations track their vehicles more efficiently. Managers can see a 360-degree view of their fleet’s activity (e.g., driver or vehicle status) with high-resolution maps, get alerts on driver behavior and track fuel consumption. They can also access the features on the go with the Verizon Connect mobile app.

The software has a modular approach, so organizations can scale up or down as their needs change. The GPS fleet tracking features are standard, and users can add on these modules, which are:

  • Integrated Video (dashcams)
  • Compliance management
  • Asset management
  • Field service management
  • Route optimization

Verizon Connect has customizable features, such as custom workflow scripts and flexible labeling (e.g., changing field types in the software). Administrators can set up unlimited users and assign them access to the software based on their roles. In addition, Verizon Connect supports multiple languages.

There are numerous benefits to the software, such as:

  • Streamlined processes
  • Improved driver safety
  • Reduced operating costs
  • Cloud-based deployment, so companies won’t need to host or maintain software

It also comes with native integration to third-party systems via its Marketplace network, such as fuel management software, supply chain solutions and accounting software. In addition, developers can built custom integration with their company’s business software (e.g., CRM, HRMS) with the API toolkit.

Here are some of Verizon Connect’s key features.

GPS fleet tracking – A GPS tracker is installed into each vehicle, and it then sends the data to the software. Fleet managers can see the vehicle activity close to real time via a map, and they can drill down into the map to get an updated status on the vehicle or driver. Managers can also see the data in a custom map overlay that shows GIS data, such as power or sewer lines, or as a satellite view, such as Streetside or Bird Eye views.

Verizon Connect also has a geofencing feature that lets users create a virtual fence around a geographic location to prevent unauthorized access.

Fuel consumption/vehicle maintenance tracking – Verizon Connect can monitor the vehicle for any malfunctions and then alerts users. Managers can set up a preventative maintenance schedule and receive reminders of upcoming maintenance needs.

The software integrates with fuel card systems for tracking fuel spending and consumption. The fuel transaction reports can track history of expenses and mileage per liter for pinpointing fuel card fraud or excessive speeding.

Driver ID (performance monitoring) – The optional Driver ID tracking system is a unique key fob assigned to each driver. It helps managers identify their routes, monitor for unsafe driving behavior and provide coaching. The manager can get custom alerts (by text, email or push notifications) for any unsafe behavior, such as speeding, idling or harsh braking.

Reporting and dashboards – The software includes customizable reports and dashboards on metrics like fuel efficiency, harsh driving incidents and daily driver activity. Managers can also analyze historical trends on data dating back two years.

We also want to mention the key features of the add-on modules.

Integrated Video – Integrated Video uses a dashboard camera with driver-facing or road-facing features and stores the data in the cloud. It uses artificial intelligence to detect any triggers (e.g., harsh braking, hard cornering) behind a harsh driving event or near-miss collision. The software then sends an alert to the manager within minutes of the event with the relevant video.

Compliance management – The compliance management module helps companies adhere to the Electronic Logging Device (ELD) mandate. Managers can see the driver’s hours logged (daily and weekly), the time remaining on their shifts, hours of service (HOS) status and any past violations. Drivers can compile the Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) with their mobile app for complying with roadside inspections. The DVIR data is stored in a dashboard for access to mechanics and an audit trail can be kept for up to a year.

Asset management – This module allows managers to track equipment, trailers and other assets. Similar to fleet tracking, they can monitor the asset’s location, status and usage history, as well as receive asset maintenance reminders.

Field service management – This module includes a drag-and-drop interface for creating technicians’ schedules. The smart scheduling feature suggests specific technicians for a job based on their availability and skill set. The technician can view their schedules, collect signatures from customers and capture photos and notes via a mobile app while on the job site. The software also sends appointment reminders and ETA notifications to customers, collect their review of the job and capture proof-of-delivery details.

Route optimization – The route optimization module allows managers to plan more cost-efficient routes. It uses the Route Cloud algorithm to select the most optimal route for drivers based on business need, customer location, traffic and other factors. Managers can adjust the driver’s route on the fly by adding new stops or changing current ones, and they can also add multiple stops within the route.
