Omnitracs At A Glance
Product Overview
Omnitracs, a cloud-based, integrated platform, helps companies maintain their fleet’s productivity, safety and compliance. It can be customized to an organization’s unique needs and integrated with third-party systems. Omnitracs offers its products based on an industry (e.g., truckload, parcel and delivery) and its needs (e.g., driver management, compliance), but we’ve focused on its five core solutions:
- Fleet Telematics (GPS Monitoring)
- Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs)
- Critical Events (In-Cab) Video
- Navigation
- Routing
Omnitracs allows drivers, fleet managers and back-office staff to access important information from the same system. In addition, organizations can save money on operating costs and experience fewer vehicle breakdowns since Omnitracs tracks fuel usage, diagnoses issues and sends maintenance reminders.
Finally, Omnitracs helps businesses improve their customer service because its optimized route plan can lead to more efficient deliveries.
Features
Here is an overview of each solution from Omnitracs:
Fleet Telematics (GPS Monitoring) – Fleet managers can track driver behavior and various indicators of a vehicle’s health, such as maintenance, idle times and speed, using over 30 reporting templates. The software has an intuitive user interface that displays a map view of the entire route, including stops and events, for greater visibility. While Fleet Telematics is intended for trucks, Omnitracs offers a separate software with similar features for monitoring trailers.
ELDs – This product helps companies stay in compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) mandates. The ELD is installed in each vehicle, and it connects to Bluetooth, WiFi and 4G LTE. It records driving hours and sends an alert if the driver is close to violating the HOS. Drivers can also download the HoursGo mobile app for accessing their logs while away from the vehicle.
Critical Events Video – This solution allows fleet managers to watch video recordings of any accidents or other critical events. They can decide which events can trigger a recording and set up recording lengths in advance. The videos can be continuously recorded from a forward-facing camera or non-continuously from a driver-facing camera. Additional features include audio capture, date-and-time-specific video recall and the ability to compile video sequences.
Critical Events Video integrates with the Critical Events Reporting solution that collects data on hard braking, lane departures, forward collision warnings and other incidents. It captures data from before, during and after the incident. It also sends alerts almost in real time when a critical event occurs.
Navigation – This solution includes configurable maps that provide visual and audio directions and alert drivers if they’re speeding. It integrates with dispatch systems so dispatchers can add new routes if needed.
Routing – Also known as Roadnet Anywhere Routing, this software creates an optimized route plan based on the departing location, stops and destination. Users can see a map of the route in street or satellite view (or both), and they can add and remove stops. One notable feature is Suggest Route, which uses algorithms to find the best route to accommodate late or missing orders.
Other routing features include a route scoreboard, a route template, geocoding locations, road restrictions, pickups and deliveries, and breaks management. There’s an additional routing tier that adds dispatching features like real-time location information, driver directions, driver behavior and actual versus planned reporting.
We also want to mention three reporting tools that Omnitracs offers:
Reporting and Analytics – Users can build customizable reports with real-time data using step-by-step instructions. They can filter data based on date ranges as well as schedule reports for daily, weekly or monthly distribution. The software also automatically calculates state miles for International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) reports.
Insight – With the Insight reporting tool, users can see a variety of metrics on a dashboard to spot problem areas or other trends. They can also drill down into the data for further details.
Predictive Analytics – Using predictive analytics, fleet managers can build predictive models based on historical data for future action plans. This has many benefits, such as improving driver safety, retaining high-performing drivers, controlling costs and improving fleet efficiency.
