ClearPathGPS At A Glance

Good: Virtual timecard that automatically records a driver's shift, robust dashcam features, geofencing alerts that reduce chances for theft.
Bad: Fuel monitoring, advanced fleet maintenance and field service features aren't standard, some new users can expect a slight learning curve.
Bottom Line: Cloud-based software that empowers businesses to track their fleet in real time and improve their operations.

Product Overview

ClearPathGPS is a GPS tracking software that helps managers track their fleet operations more efficiently. They can see their vehicles’ status in real time and receive alerts. ClearPathGPS is accessible from the web and mobile apps, allowing managers to monitor their fleet anywhere.

The software has several long-term benefits, such as:

  • Increased driver safety
  • Improved customer service
  • Reduced operating costs
  • Minimized unauthorized usage/theft

Features

Here are some key features of ClearPathGPS.

GPS vehicle/asset tracking – Managers can see the vehicles location within a live map, and they can drill down into each vehicle for additional details (e.g., location, driver status). There are color-coded icons that determine if the vehicle is stopped, moving, idle or speeding, and managers can also get estimated time of arrivals (ETAs) to pass onto their customers or vendors.

In addition to vehicles, managers can track assets, such as construction equipment, trailers, generators and refrigerators. They can set up a geofence around any asset, which can send an alert if there’s any after-hours or unauthorized access. Managers can also set up alerts for other things like abnormal behavior (e.g., speeding, hard braking) or if a vehicle is due for maintenance. Another tracking feature includes a virtual timecard that records a driver’s start time, stop time and total time on the job. One benefit of this feature is reduced timecard fraud. Finally, the software includes a report library on metrics, such as odometer readings and engine idleness, so managers can spot trends into their operations.

Vehicle dashcams – This feature provides visual proof for any unsafe behavior or accidents that companies can use in court cases, insurance claims and coaching tools. The dashcam connects to the vehicle’s OBD port, and it has both road- and driver-facing cameras that record footage before, during and after a detected event. The footage can be uploaded to the web portal for later viewing, and it can be stored for 30 days.

Note that ClearPathGPS has two unique features that protect the vehicle while it’s parked. The Guard Mode feature detects broken glass or crashes, while the LED spotlight can reveal motion outside of the vehicle.

Driver ID – Driver ID is an optional feature that helps managers track drivers assigned to multiple vehicles. Each driver has a key fob that they use to “clock in” when starting the vehicle, and because the key fob is linked to the driver, managers are able to track historical and current trends associated with that driver.

Routing – ClearPathGPS offers optional integration with the Route4Me software for companies that need advanced route optimization functionality. Users can import their fleet data into Route4Me and then track vehicle activity directly from that software. Route4Me can overlay the route data into its database, which predicts heavy traffic patterns and then calculates an alternate route.

Hours of Service (HOS) and Electronic Logging Device (ELD) – This optional feature allows companies to comply with the federal HOS mandate by integrating with the VisTracks ELD solution. Drivers can track their hours and receive a warning if they’re getting close to any HOS violations. VisTracks also has Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) functionality that allows the driver to perform vehicle inspections. Finally, managers can track HOS data and DVIR reports via the management portal.

Pricing

ClearPathGPS has two monthly subscription plans, which are:

  • Standard – The Standard plan costs $20 per month for vehicles and powered assets (e.g., trailers) and $15 per month for non-powered assets. It has all of the basic features, such as a live map view, geofences, a report library, support and ongoing training.
  • Pro – The Pro plan costs $25 per month for vehicles and powered assets and $20 per month for non-powered assets. It has all of the features of the Standard plan, plus advanced reporting, real-time alerts and integration.

Each plan has an additional $30 per-month price for the vehicle dashcam, and prices for other hardware is available by quote.

ClearPathGPS offers a 30-day risk-free guarantee.

Shortcomings

ClearPathGPS doesn’t have built-in fleet maintenance, fuel monitoring and field service functionality, so companies that require those features can integrate it with a third-party software.

New users can expect to have a slight learning curve with the software, but the vendor offers guides and phone support.
