Workfront At A Glance

Good: Strong features for collaboration and digital-asset tracking.
Bad: May be too robust for clients seeking a task-tracking solution.
Bottom Line: All-in-one project management solution for teams with complex workflows.

Product Overview

Workfront is a robust cloud-based project management tool for tracking all the details of ongoing tasks.

The software goes above and beyond most project management solutions because it keeps track of a repository of creative assets, along with performance metrics so companies can recognize employee achievements. It also boosts communication and collaboration among teams.

Workfront is tailored for individuals within marketing, IT and services teams, and it offers an additional option that works well for other clients.

The solution comes in three pricing options: Standard, Select and Premium. Standard doesn’t come with email integration, and Premium is the only option that includes compliance and safety features such as encryption.

Here, we’ve chosen the top five features of Workfront:

1. Collaboration: Communicate easily with your team using the solution, which also serves as a platform for recognition and endorsements. Share and manage all documents seamlessly for collaboration with others. Notifications automatically alert employees about required actions.

2. Portfolio Management: Workfront doubles as a document storage repository to keep all digital assets in one place for your team. Keep track of past and present work to best represent each employee’s work history and performance.

3. Workflow Automation: Time tracking and real-time metrics give transparency to employees about how they influence the bottom line. Resources can be accurately allocated when everyone’s workflow is clearly recognized, giving visibility to how the team can make improvements. The solution also works on mobile devices, so it can be accessed while on the go.

4. Security: Workfront offers several security and compliance features to protect users’ data, including encryption at rest, audit rights and whitelisting IP addresses.

5. Reporting: Real-time dashboards help managers track the status of ongoing projects for allocating labor and other resources. Reports can be customized according to individual users’ roles and are periodically updated. Some data points that companies may find it important to track include the percentage of the project that’s complete, planned hours, task number and projected completion date.

Some agencies have noted that Workfront’s architecture makes it difficult to organize files that are dependent on individual customers. When agencies must make a distinction among clients and customers of clients, it’s difficult to organize. This is an issue Workfront is currently working to fix.

In addition, the solution itself may be too robust for those looking for software to only track tasks.
