Product Overview

The new Ricoh MP 2555 Series replaces the older MP 2554 series that was released in 2015. Among the upgrades from the older series are a faster processor and a configuration that includes a standard single-pass document feeder.

There are three devices in this series. First, there is the MP 2555 ($6,725), which prints and copies at 25ppm. Then, there is the MP 3055 ($8,769) that runs at 30ppm, and finally, there is the MP 3555 ($10,375) that has a print and copy speed of 35ppm.

All three devices include standard printing, copying and scanning functions and optional faxing.

We want to note that each device is a base model that includes a standard automatic reversing document feeder. However, Ricoh offers another configuration of each MFP that includes a standard single-pass duplexing document feeder (where both sides of a page scans at a single pass). Those configurations are priced at $7,489 for the MP 2555, $9,585 for the MP 3055 and $11,199 for the MP 3555.

All three MFPs include a 1.46GHz processor, 2GB of memory and a 320GB hard drive. There is also a 10.1″ full-color Smart Operation Panel with commonly-accessed workflows displayed as icons. Users can swipe through, drag and drop or pinch and flick through the screens, much like a smartphone or tablet. Workflows can be customized by downloading them from the Ricoh  app site.

More details on the paper-handling and other features are in our Features section below.

The MP 2555 Series provides strong features for the small-to-medium-sized offices that are looking for a multifunctional device but doesn’t require color printing and copying.

Features

Paper handling: Each device starts with a set of two 550-sheet trays and a 100-sheet bypass for a capacity of 1,200 sheets. There are a few optional trays that maxes out at a capacity of 4,700 sheets: a 550-sheet tray, another set of two 550-sheet trays, a tandem large capacity tray that totals 2,000 sheets and a 1,500-sheet large capacity tray. All trays support up to 11″ x 17″ paper size with the exception of the bypass, which accepts up to 12″ x 18″.

As noted above, each configuration includes a different document feeder. The automatic reversing document feeder has a 100-sheet capacity. The single-pass duplexing document feeder includes a 220-sheet capacity.

Standard output capacity is 500 sheets. There are several finishing options. First, there is a 250-sheet stapleless internal finisher that binds up to 5 sheets of paper. Second, there is an internal finisher with a 500-sheet capacity and a 50-sheet multiposition stapling. A 2/3-hole punch can be added to the finisher.

There is also a hybrid stapleless and stapling finisher. It has a 1,000-sheet capacity, 50-sheet multiposition stapling and the ability to stack stapleless of up to 5 sheets. A 2/3-hole punch is also available as a separate option.

There is also a 1,000-sheet booklet finisher. It staples up to 50 sheets and saddlestitches up to 15 sheets. A 2/3-hole punch unit can also be added.

And finally, there is a 250-sheet internal shift-sort tray and a 125-sheet single-bin tray.

Multifunctional features: Printing features include standard PCL, optional Adobe PostScript and optional XPS printing languages. Ethernet and USB connectivity are standard, while Wi-Fi are optional. Mobile printing is also supported.

The devices include color scanning. Networking scanning is also supported. Other scanning features include scan-to-email, scan-to-PDF, LDAP support, image rotation and drop out color send, to name a few. Users can also scan documents to cloud storage accounts, such as Dropbox, Google Drive and Box.

Faxing includes a 33.6kbps modem with JBIG compression and up to 4MB of memory. Memory can be expanded up to 64MB. Other features include Internet faxing, LAN faxing and paperless faxing.

Security features: Ricoh offers a wide range of security features. Some of those features include user authentication, data overwriting, data encryption, locked print password encryption and hard drive encryption.

Shortcomings

While Ricoh offers a standard PostScript emulation, the Adobe PostScript 3 version is only available as an option.

Also, there is no color printing or copying. Companies that require this can look at our other Ricoh reviews, such as the MP C2504 or the MP C3004.
