Product Overview

The MFC-L8900CDW is a color laser all-in-one device intended for the small business market. It’s the multifunction sibling to the Brother HL-L8360CDW Series. It prints and copies at up to 33 ppm in black and color. Printing, copying, scanning and faxing functions are all standard.

The MFC-L8900CDW is similar to the MFC-L8610CDW, however, it has a 5″ color touchscreen panel, higher maximum paper capacity, and super high-yield aftermarket toners.

At $600, the MFC-L8900CDW includes an 800 MHz processor and 512 MB of memory. Users can create up to 64 shortcuts of common workflows on the 5″ color touchscreen panel.

PCL printing is supported, as well as Brother’s proprietary PostScript language. USB, Ethernet and wireless connectivity are all standard. Mobile printing is supported via the Brother iPrint&Scan app, AirPrint, and Google Cloud Print. Users can print from and scan to Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Box and Evernote.

More details on the devices is in our Features section below.

The MFC-L8900CDW is a compact and affordable device for small businesses that need a simple yet robust machine. The super high-yield aftermarket toners will also contribute to lower operating expenses.

Features

Standard paper-handling starts with a 250-sheet tray and a 50-sheet multipurpose tray. Brother offers an optional 250-sheet tray and a 500-sheet tray that totals the capacity to 1,300 sheets. Each tray holds up to 8.5″ x 14″ paper size.

The output capacity is 150 sheets. There is also a 70-sheet automatic document feeder. The maximum monthly duty cycle is 60,000 pages, but Brother recommends a monthly volume of 4,000 pages.

The scanning function supports scan to email, to file, to image, to OCR, to FTP, to Microsoft SharePoint, and to the cloud.

The faxing function includes a 33.6kbps modem, up to 500 pages of fax memory and PC faxing.

The MFC-L8900CDW ships with the standard yield black and color toner. However, Brother offers super high-yield aftermarket toners that consist of 6,500 pages in each black and color toner. We’ve calculated our cost per page based on prices found on the BrotherMall site and the high-yield toners. The cost per page is 1.8 cents in black and 10.3 cents in color. These are reasonable operating costs for businesses that don’t have high-volume printing needs.

Businesses can also save money by using the toner save mode and duplexing features.

Security features include an active directory, secure function lock, secure print, enterprise security, SSL/TLS, and IPSec.

Finally, there is a one-year limited warranty.
