TriNet At A Glance
Product Overview
TriNet is a professional employer organization (PEO) that helps small to medium-sized companies streamline HR tasks so they can focus on their businesses. As a PEO, TriNet provides full-service payroll, benefits and other HR tasks for businesses that don’t have dedicated HR staff.
TriNet also offers a cloud-based human resource management system (HRMS), which will be the focus of this review. It includes HR modules in one platform, such as payroll, time tracking, recruiting, performance management and learning management. Because all features are on a single platform, companies (especially small businesses) won’t have to worry about the time and expense of maintaining separate solutions.
Another benefit of TriNet is self-service functionality. Employees can view their paychecks, manage their benefits and request time off. They can also make changes to their personal information or access company documents. Managers can approve time-off requests, monitor employee performance and make payroll adjustments.
TriNet’s benefits can help small and mid-sized businesses retain talent and increase employee engagement. Aside from health insurance and retirement packages, the PEO offers commuter benefits and employee discounts on vacations, retailers and restaurants through its Marketplace channel. For companies that prefer not to handle benefits compliance issues (e.g., Affordable Care Act requirements), TriNet’s full-service HR team can take care of those tasks.
In addition, TriNet offers an expense management solution to automate travel and expense reimbursement. Employees can submit expense reports online, and they can be accepted or rejected from the platform. Other features of this solution include mileage tracking, automatic import of credit/debit card data, standard and customizable expense categories, and a mobile expense app. The expense management solution integrates with various types of accounting software, including NetSuite, Intacct and QuickBooks.
Features
Here are the key features of each module:
Payroll – The Payroll module includes payroll processing, tax calculations and payments, time-off tracking and scheduling functionalities. TriNet offers the option of direct deposit and debit card payments, as well as electronic paystubs. TriNet also offers payroll and tax processing services for companies that want to outsource payroll.
Applicant tracking – The applicant tracking module helps businesses manage their end-to-end hiring processes. Users can add job postings to free and paid job boards and social media sites, with a custom URL for each posting. They can also view resumes, interview feedback and other information about each candidate on a dedicated candidate profile page. Additionally, users can create customized skills and assessments. And finally, TriNet offers background check functionality via its partnership with GoodHire.
Performance management – The performance management module allows managers to perform employee evaluations at any time rather than yearly or quarterly. Managers and employees can set and track both individual and cascading goals. The module includes standard and customized review templates and reports.
Learning management – The learning management module has a content library of over 500 courses in topics that relate to various job roles and industries. Some examples of these topics include finance, business, safety and workplace ethics. Companies can create targeted training programs that are relevant to their employees.
Workforce analytics – The workforce analytics tools let HR access real-time analytics on their dashboards and run reports. With the Workforce Analytics dashboards, HR can get an at-a-glance look at their workforce data in real time and spot trends or patterns. They can also use built-in reports with standard metrics, such as employee turnover or headcount, as well as create custom reports with a step-by-step tool. There’s a Compensation Benchmark Reports feature that pulls data from Salary.com, so HR can compare salary for different roles or skills and get accurate data for competitive compensation. Finally, TriNet staff can create custom reports or analytics for teams that need advanced metrics.
TriNet Mobile – The TriNet Mobile app allows employees to access pertinent information from their mobile devices, such as pay history, benefits, time-off balances and the company directory. They can request time off as well as call their managers or co-workers directly from the app.
