Product Overview
In 2017, Xerox debuted its new VersaLink printer and MFP line that’s designed to help businesses that has limited IT resources work with an easy-to-use and secure printing device. Each VersaLink printer includes a wizard that guides the user in setting up the device and connecting it to their servers. The printer also integrates with mobile devices and cloud accounts.
The new VersaLink C605 Series are high-volume multi-function color printers. It consists a base model and four additional configurations.
- The C605/X ($3,985) is the base model that prints and copies at up to 55 ppm (in black and color), includes duplexing and networking, and offers standard printing, copying, and scanning functions
- The C605/XF ($4,554) includes a standard 500-sheet finisher
- The C605/XP ($4,554) includes a standard four-bin 100-sheet mailbox
- The C605/XTF ($5,295) includes the 2,000-sheet high-capacity feeder and a standard 500-sheet finisher
- The C605/XTP ($5,295) includes the 2,000-sheet high-capacity feeder and a standard four-bin 100-sheet mailbox
The series include a 1.05 GHz processor, 4 GB of memory, and a 250 GB hard drive.
Printing languages supported include PCL, PostScript, direct PDF and XPS. USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi Direct connectivity are standard.
The C605 Series support mobile printing. Users can print from a variety of apps, such as Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, Mopria, Xerox Print Service Plug-in for Android and Near Field Communication (NFC) devices.
The MFPs also include a 7″ color touchscreen with a touch-and-swipe user interface that resembles mobile devices. They also comes with access to the Xerox App Gallery so users can download specific apps to help customize one-touch printing tasks that reflect their workloads.
The C605 MFPs support printing from and scanning to these following cloud accounts: Microsoft OneDrive, DocuShare, Google Drive and Dropbox.
More features on these devices is in our Features section below.
The VersaLink C605 MFP Series provide strong features for companies that need multifunctionality and color output. We especially like that they have an easy set up, very low operating costs and are adaptable for a mobile office.
Features
Standard paper handling starts with a 550-sheet tray and a 150-sheet bypass. Depending on the configuration selected, Xerox offers up to four additional 550-sheet trays and a 2,000-sheet high-capacity feeder. Each tray support paper size up to 8.5″ x 14″, however, the high-capacity feeder supports letter-sized (8.5″ x 11″) paper.
The maximum paper capacity is 3,250 sheets. Duplexing is standard. There is also the 100-sheet duplex automatic document feeder.
Standard output is a 250-sheet tray. Xerox optionally offers a 500-sheet finisher that includes 50-sheet stapling, as well as a mailbox that consists of four 100-sheet bins. Depending on the configuration selected, the finisher and the mailbox are standard.
The maximum duty cycle is up to 120,000 pages per month.
Scanning features include scan to email, to USB, and to network. File formats supported are PDF, PDF/A, XPS, JPEG, and TIFF. Faxing features include LAN fax, direct fax, and fax forward to email.
Xerox includes many standard security features, such as secure print, user authentication, network authentication, IP address filtering and access controls, to name several.
There is also the Simple ID feature, where users access commonly-used apps on the home screen. The user is assigned a dedicated ID and password, which they enter only once.
Xerox has a few options in terms of its aftermarket print cartridges: standard-capacity, high-capacity and extra-high-capacity. For our purposes, we calculated the cost per page based on the extra-high capacity cartridges (16,900 pages for black and 16,800 pages for each color). The cost per page for black is 1.3 cents and for color is 6.3 cents. It’s pretty remarkable, especially as color cost per page tends to average about 13 cents or more.
Businesses can also keep costs down by taking advantage of Xerox’s environmentally-friendly features, such as duplexing and/or choosing its Earth Smart settings as default for printing jobs.
