Product Overview
Toshiba has revamped its light-production lineup with the new e-STUDIO1058 and e-STUDIO1208, which provides standard printing, copying and scanning features. The e-STUDIO1058 prints and copies at up to 105 ppm and has a first-page-out time of 3.2 seconds, while the e-STUDIO1208 runs at up to 120 ppm. The monthly duty cycle is 1,000,000 pages.
Both devices run off of Toshiba’s e-BRIDGE controller that includes a 1.8 GHz processor, 5 GB of memory, and 1 TB hard disk drive. PCL and PostScript are supported, as well as direct JPEG, web, email, and PDF printing. USB and Ethernet are standard. Duplexing is standard.
There is a 15″ touchscreen with a swipe-style interface that lets users access commonly-used functions, such as the address book, copying, and tray settings, straight from the control panel. There is also a retractable pull-down keyboard.
More details are found in our Features section below.
At up to 120 ppm, the e-STUDIO1208 Series represent Toshiba’s speediest monochrome machines that’s ideal for production-oriented companies with a lot of printing/copying needs without color output.
Features
These devices come standard with a tandem two-tray unit that includes one tray with 1,200 sheets and another tray with 800 sheets. The tandem unit accepts up to letter-size paper only. There is also two additional trays of 500 sheets each that accept up to 12″ x 18″ paper. There is also a 100-sheet bypass tray. The standard capacity is 3,000 sheets. Companies can purchase a 500-sheet bypass tray that goes with the large-capacity tray, a two-drawer large-capacity tray with 2,500 sheets in each drawer, and a 3,000-sheet large capacity tray. Maximum capacity is 13,500 sheets.
These models have a standard 250-sheet duplexing document feeder that scans and copies up to 120 ppm (240 ipm in duplex).
An inserter unit which holds 400 sheets (2 x 200) is available as an option. There are a few finishing options available. First, there is a 100-sheet stapling finisher that holds up to 4,000 sheets. And there is a 100-sheet finisher with 20-sheet saddlestitching (80-page booklets) and an additional booklet trimmer option. Users can optionally purchase a hole-punch unit with either finisher.
The color scanning feature supports scanning to email with the LDAP address book integration as well as these file formats: JPEG, TIFF, PDF, and XPS.
Power usage on these machines is extremely low. They also have fast warm-up speeds of 210 seconds, so that companies doesn’t have to keep the machines in a ready state all the time. That’s a big plus for companies wanting to reduce their carbon footprint. A very high toner yield (120,000 pages) means less maintenance time. Toshiba also offers its Zero Waste to Landfill recycling program that accepts all old toner cartridges.
These devices have a wide range of security features, including data overwrite, encryption, authentication, hidden pattern printing, image logs, and erase private data.

Shortcomings
There is no faxing offered, but companies in the production market may not see the need for it. For companies seeking color MFPs, we recommend they check out Toshiba’s line of color devices.
