Product Overview

Sharp has recently added several new devices to its A4 (legal-sized) lineup. The MX-B557P ($2,830) and MX-B707P ($4,830) are two black-and-white single-function printers intended for offices with high-volume printing needs. The MX-B557P prints at up to 55 ppm and has a first-print-time of 4.5 seconds. The MX-B707P prints up to 70 ppm and has a first-print time of 4 seconds.

Both printers include an intuitive 4.3″ touchscreen with a tablet-style menu, a 1 GHz processor and 1 GB of memory that’s expandable to 5 GB. PCL and PostScript are supported, and USB, Ethernet and wireless connectivity is standard. Users can directly print files (e.g., PDF, JPEG, Microsoft Office) from a mobile device, file server or USB drive.

Features

Paper handling starts with a 550-sheet drawer and a 100-sheet bypass tray. Sharp offers optional paper trays that adds up to a maximum of 4,400 sheets: a 250-sheet paper-feed unit, a 550-sheet paper-feed unit and a 2,100-sheet paper-feed unit. Most of the trays support up to legal-sized paper. Duplexing is also included.

There’s a standard 550-sheet output tray, and the printers has several finishing options, such as a 500-sheet output expander, a four-bin mailbox (100 sheets per bin), a 1,500-sheet high-capacity output expander with stapling and a 500-sheet finisher with an optional hole punch unit.

Additional printer features are toner save mode, power save mode, electronic sorting and driver delivery functions. There’s also accessibility features like shortcut keystrokes on numeric keypads, raised operator panel keys and magnification mode up to 200%. Finally, the printers include network security features, such as IP address filtering, TLS encryption and data overwrite with an optional hard disk drive.
