Product Overview

These Konica Minolta monochrome MFPs are a new generation of large workgroup machines. These models feature upgrades to Konica Minolta’s INFO-Palette Design control panel, including improved swiping functionality, as well as the tap and toggle and pinch in and pinch out functions. Also included in the upgrades are access to apps that can be downloaded from the control panel and compliance to the IEEE 2600.1 security standards.  Also new to this family is an increased scanning speed on their standard document feeder – the 100-sheet single-pass dual-scan document feeder scans up to 160ppm duplex.

The 454e has a speed of 45ppm and has 4.6 seconds in first copy time. The 554e runs at 55ppm and 4.1 seconds of first copy time. Both machines offer standard printing, copying, scanning and optional faxing.

The controller uses an 800MHz processor and comes with 2GB of memory and a 250GB hard disk drive. PostScript and PCL printing support are standard, along with XPS printing.

Konica Minolta continues to improve its already strong copier/MFP line with frequent upgrades, especially utilizing its newest INFO-Palette design. These powerful and nicely featured models are well worth considering for a large department or a production market.

Features

Paper handling is a very strong point. The machines have dual 500-sheet paper cassettes, and a 150-sheet bypass unit — all standard. All the standard paper drawers are heavy-duty. The 500-sheet cassettes support 11″ x 17″ paper and handle up to 140lb. index in weight. The bypass handles paper up to 100lb. cover (over 150lb. index).

You have the option of adding a single 500-sheet tray, two additional 500-sheet trays, 2,500-sheet paper feed cabinet, a 2,500-sheet large-capacity tray, or a 3,000-sheet large-capacity tray. Maximum paper capacity with options is 6,650 sheets.

On the output side, there’s a standard 250-sheet tray. Beyond that, there are several options.

First, there is an internal finisher that features 50-sheet multiposition stapling. It holds 300 pages. You can add a 2/3-hole punch unit.

Secondly, there is an external finisher that also performs 50-sheet multiposition stapling and has a 200-sheet upper tray and a 3,000-sheet main tray. To that basic finishing unit, you can a 2/3-hole punch unit. The external finisher can also be equipped with a booklet maker with saddlestitching as an option. This latter unit can staple up to 80 pages and support tri-folding.

This series also has a finisher with 100-sheet mulitposition stapling. This unit holds 100 sheets in the upper tray and 3,000 sheets in the main tray. You can add a booklet maker with saddlestitching. This unit can fold and stitch up to 20 sheets (booklets up to 80 pages). There is a 2/3-hole punch.

MFP Functions: These models come standard with scanning to email and user boxes, as well as to FTP and to desktop. LDAP is supported. Internet faxing is standard. Optional faxing includes a 33.6kbps modem and JBIG compression, and also supports PC faxing and IP address faxing.

Scanning allows you to produce files in a variety of formats, including encrypted PDF and compact PDF. You can also direct scanned pages to multiple destinations, and these systems are compatible with WebDAV (distributed authoring and versioning, which allows you to manage archives across the network and keep track of document updating).

Security features are extensive. They include hard disk encryption, job encryption, watermarks, IP filtering, secure print, encrypted PDF, and secure fax. An improved job logging system is included as well. These models are also the latest of Konica Minolta’s devices to comply with the IEEE 2600.1 international standard.
