Good: Companies can customize the software based on the specific needs of their businesses.
Bad: A bit complicated and expensive to implement for smaller businesses.
Bottom Line: Modular approach with robust capabilities helps organizations streamline processes, reduce costs and improve customer responsiveness.

Product Overview

Epicor Kinetic (formerly Epicor ERP) is a cloud-based enterprise resource planning solution built for organizations of all sizes – although it is mainly known to target mid-sized companies – involved in manufacturing.

Considered a fully integrated ERP suite, Epicor Kinetic offers comprehensive features and functionality to handle accounting and finance, project management, customer relationship management, inventory, pre-production materials planning, manufacturing execution, human capital, supply chain, global business management and more.

The modular software suite permits prospective customers to acquire only those modules they need without having to buy other modules to run the system. Epicor Kinetic’s flexibility also accommodates installation on either a single site or at disparate sites, as found in a multinational enterprise.

The application is compatible with all devices and operating systems. Epicor offers mobile apps for Android and iOS that are available in Google Play and Apple’s App Store, respectively. These apps include features for mobile time and expense tracking.

Features

Epicor’s features include:

  • Customer Relationship Management: Epicor CRM provides a 360-degree view of the entire customer, supplier or partner relationship. It helps businesses effectively manage the entire customer lifecycle, improve operational efficiency and accelerate bottom-line growth. The Epicor CRM module enables companies to manage leads, customers, contacts and quotes – from opportunity to order. The Epicor ERP solution integrated with Salesforce ensures a company’s contact management system is always in sync.
  • Financial Management: With this module, companies can manage financial operations and gain insights into performance, expense and risk, as well as access real-time fiscal information from anywhere on any device. It enables organizations to make smarter, faster decisions with robust reporting and analytics. The financial management module also offers country-specific functionality, as well as multicompany, multibook and multicurrency support.
  • Enterprise Content Management: DocStar Enterprise Content Management (ECM), an Epicor solution, is a cloud-based tool that allows organizations to securely manage all their content. The ECM module visualizes content to help companies make strategic business decisions. It helps build relationships with customers, vendors and employees by providing quick answers to questions. The module also eliminates manual document management processes with ERP system integration.
  • Supply Chain Management: This module enables companies to manage all aspects of their supply chains — from forecasting to fulfillment. It enables organizations to operate a supply chain smartly by providing greater insight, control and data visibility. With a data-driven focus on meeting expectations for information accuracy, inventory, product delivery and service, Supply Chain Management helps companies improve their customers’ experience (CX).
  • Business Intelligence and Analytics: Using this module, companies get greater visibility into the business for strategic decision-making. Organizations can use data analytics to disclose issues and find opportunities to grow their businesses and increase profits. Dashboards, trackers and data visualization tools built into the core ERP platform help organizations illustrate data and get a better grasp of what’s happening in the business at any given time. And predictive analytics helps companies understand what’s going to happen next.
  • Human Capital Management: Epicor Human Capital Management offers a feature-rich human resource management system that organizations can deploy in the cloud or on premise to comprehensively manage the entire lifecycle of their global workforce from recruitment to retirement.
  • Epicor Virtual Agent (EVA): This voice-activated agent uses machine learning to deliver users visual answers on their data and streamline routine tasks. Users can simply text or talk out their question and get answers quickly, and EVA also provides targeted recommendations and suggestions based on the data. The app is available on Android and iOS devices, as well as through a web browser.

Implementation/Integration

The Epicor implementation methodology is broken into five stages: prepare, plan, design, validate and deploy. Each stage includes a series of segments that are filled with a set of inputs, tools, techniques and deliverables that build on one another to move the process to the next stage.

  • Prepare – During this stage, Epicor’s consulting team aligns the implementation project expectations with the software suite a company is planning to implement.
  • Plan – The plan stage is the official beginning of the implementation project. It establishes the foundation for the entire project and creates the blueprint that lays out the system requirements, resources and timelines that are needed to match a company’s demands and budget.
  • Design – During this stage, a company’s core project team and subject matter experts begin to use the system and document how the organization plans to use the system to meet its business objectives.
  • Validate – The goal of this stage is to better ensure that all business procedures are correctly documented and that the business operations flow successfully through the system.
  • Deploy – During this stage, Epicor’s consulting team assists customers with developing their go-live plans, as well as providing end-user training.

Some of Epicor Kinetic’s integrations include Salesforce CRM, Magento’s e-commerce platform and MachineMetrics’ manufacturing analytics platform.
