Product Overview
Revel Systems is a cloud-based iPad point of sale (POS) system that enables retailers and restaurants to efficiently manage their operations. Retailers can track inventory, engage with customers better and analyze sales and revenue data. Restaurants can plan menus, manage deliveries and ensure that their customers receive orders quickly.
There are two main solutions. Revel Essentials targets smaller businesses, while Revel Enterprise is geared toward larger chains or stores with multiple locations. The vendor also offers specialized platforms for businesses, such as pizza places, quick service restaurants or nightclubs. The solutions are scalable, so businesses can purchase features and accessories and add more as they grow.
Revel Systems has numerous benefits, such as:
- Cloud-based deployment, so users can access the software from anywhere
- Streamlined operations
- Ability to comply with EMV and other payment standards
- Intuitive interface
- Integration to many applications, such as accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks), eCommerce solutions and customer relationship management (CRM) systems
Revel Systems sells a variety of hardware accessories, such as an iPad tablet, barcode scanners, cash drawers, receipt printers, payment devices and kiosks. It also has a payment processing solution called Revel Advantage that integrates with its point of sale software. Businesses can accept credit, debit, mobile and gift card payments, and transactions are deposited in their account the next day. Revel Advantage also has security features, such as point-to-point encryption, and supports PCI and EMV compliance.
Features
Revel Systems has many robust features. Here are a few key ones.
Payment/point of sale transactions – The software allows businesses to provide flexible payment options to customers, such as cash, credit, mobile or gift cards. Multiple diners at one table can split a check, and customers can also open a bar tab with a credit card preauthorization.
The cash management feature lets businesses physically or virtually manage their till. Employees can set a starting till when they log onto their shift, and Revel alerts them when the till reaches a certain amount. Another feature, the Always On mode, lets businesses take payments while offline, and transactions are automatically processed when Internet connection is restored.
Customer service – Businesses can store important information about their customers to get insights into their buying habits. Users can create customer profiles at the point of sale and update the database at any time. The Customer Display System can increase customer engagement by allowing them to verify order accuracy, swipe payment or opt for paperless receipts. Businesses can customize the system by adding in branded messaging, too.
Revel Systems gives businesses additional ways to improve the customer experience, such as providing online ordering options, creating a loyalty program and offering discounts.
Revel Management Console – Each business has its own customizable Management Console for managing all facets of its operations (e.g., employees, customers, inventory). Users can input or edit the data, which then automatically shows up on the POS system.
Restaurant management – Restaurants can build their own menus using categories and subcategories, and they can add in discounts and offer customers the choice of building their own orders. There’s also a kitchen display system that allows cooks to track customer orders easily, and cooks can print off order receipts from a kitchen printer.
With the delivery management feature, restaurants can manage deliveries in real time, customize routes for more efficient service and track drivers on a virtual map.
There’s also the table management feature, which lets restaurants manage their floor plans, design a visual table layout, manage reservations and waitlists, and use a timer to ensure each table gets quick service. The waitstaff can also use a mobile order taker rather than a pad and pen.
Inventory management – The real-time inventory management feature lets businesses track many items by grouping them into categories. Users can also track specific details, such as the color or the size of the item. The software sends an alert when stock is running low and automatically generates a purchase order. There’s also an inventory app that allows users to scan an item’s barcode with their phone.
Reporting and analytics – Users can run reports on sales, inventory, labor and other metrics, and they can drill down into those metrics for further analysis. And the Revel Insights mobile app lets users manage their operations on the go. They can create data visualizations, receive alerts if there’s a data outlier and forecast supply and demand.

Implementation/Integration
New clients are assigned a dedicated Client Success Manager, who will set up the POS system either on-site or remotely. During on-site implementation, the CSM installs the hardware, sets up payment processing and provides training on Revel’s key features. They can also reconfigure any existing hardware if the client opts to use their own. If the client prefers remote installation, the CSM gives verbal instructions on setting up the hardware and can provide virtual training.
For clients that don’t require hardware installation, there’s the Essentials basic implementation package, which involves a guided software setup by the CSM. Revel also offers additional implementation services, such as installation outside of regular business hours (e.g., nights, weekends) and extra training.
Customer Service & Support
Users can access the support center for video tutorials, product guides or to ticket submission. They can contact the support team directly by phone.
Clients are also assigned an Account Manager as a first contact to help with issues or relay best practices and solution optimization strategies.
Pricing
The Revel System POS software starts at $99 per terminal, per month (billed annually) and includes unlimited users, phone and online support and automatic product updates. Please note that Revel requires a purchase of the Revel Advantage payment processing solution and a three-year contract. Businesses will also pay a flat payment processing rate, which Revel doesn’t publicly list. Please contact them directly for a quote.
On-site and remote implementation packages start at $649. Prices for hardware accessories and additional services aren’t publicly available, so please contact the company for a quote.
Shortcomings
While there is an intuitive interface and training available, there may be a learning curve for businesses that haven’t used a POS before. Also, although it’s targeted to any size business, it may be too robust for some small retailers/restaurants.
