Product Overview

The WorkCentre EC7800 Series join Xerox’s lineup of A3 (11″ x 17″) color MFPs and is geared toward medium-to-large offices. There are two devices in this series: the WorkCentre EC7836 that prints at up to 30 ppm in black and color, and the WorkCentre EC7856 that prints at up to 55 ppm in black and 50 ppm in color. The EC7836 and EC7856 has a monthly duty cycle of 110,000 pages and 300,000 pages, respectively.

Both devices offer standard printing, copying and scanning with optional faxing. Each device starts with a 1.2 GHz processor, 250 GB hard drive and 2 GB of memory. First-page-out-time in color is 9 seconds on the EC7836 and 7.1 seconds on the EC7856. Each device has a 8.5″ customizable panel with one-touch workflows (e.g., copy, print, email, etc).

PCL and PostScript are standard, and XPS is optional. Standard connectivity includes USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi. Mobile printing and scanning is supported (more details are in our Features section below).

The WorkCentre EC7800 Series uses the ConnectKey technology that’s designed to help users navigate their workflows much faster. Users can download apps from the Xerox App Gallery, such as Print from Dropbox and Scan to Microsoft Office 365. ConnectKey also helps administrators cut printing costs by restricting color printing usage and setting user permissions.

More details on the devices are in our Features section below.

Features

Mobile printing and scanning: As mentioned above, the WorkCentre EC7800 Series offer mobile printing and scanning. Standard mobile support includes Apple AirPrint, @PrintByXerox app, Xerox App Gallery and QRCode app. Mopria-certified smartphones are also supported. Xerox Mobile Print, Xerox Mobile Print Cloud, Xerox Easy Translator Service and Xerox Healthcare MFP Solution are optional.

Paper handling: Each device starts with a 520-sheet tray and a 100-sheet bypass. The 520-sheet tray supports up to 11″ x 17″ paper size. Xerox also offers a high-capacity tandem tray totaling 3,140 sheets (from a 520-sheet tray, 867-sheet tray and 1,133-sheet tray). The tandem tray only accepts letter-sized (8.5″ x 11″) paper. There is also an optional 2,000-sheet high-capacity feeder.

Both devices include a duplexing automatic document feeder. The WorkCentre EC7836 includes a 110-sheet document feeder, while the WorkCentre EC7856 has a single-pass duplexing document feeder that scans at up to 133 ipm and accepts up to 130 sheets.

Standard output includes a dual catch tray of 250 sheets each and a face-up tray of 100 sheets. There are a few finishing options. First, there is the office finisher that stacks up to 2,000 sheets and includes a 50-sheet double-position stapling. Users can add an optional hole punch and booklet maker (with saddlestitching) to this finisher. Then, there is the 50-sheet convenience stapler with a work surface for sorting paper.

Multifunctionality: The scanning function supports scanning to several destinations, including email, USB and SMB. File formats supported are PDF, PDF/A, XPS, JPEG and TIFF. Xerox offers optional scanning features, such as the ConnectKey for DocuShare and scanning to desktop.

Security: The WorkCentre EC7800 Series includes many standard security features, such as the embedded McAfee anti-virus solution, hard drive overwrite, 256-bit encryption, secure print, network authentication and user permissions. Optional features are the Xerox PrintSafe software, McAfee integrity control and the Smart Card enablement kit.

Cost per page: The WorkCentre EC7800 Series has four optional aftermarket toners (black, cyan, magenta and yellow) with very-good page yields (15,000 pages for each color and 26,000 pages for black). Based on yields and prices we obtained from Xerox’s website, we’ve calculated the cost per page at approximately 1 cent in black and 4.5 cents in color. Users can also contribute to lower printing costs by printing in duplex and printing pages in color only when needed.
