Product Overview

The Phaser 6510 Color Printer, along with the WorkCentre 6515 Color MFP, is Xerox’s latest entry in its color lineup geared toward small and medium businesses. The printer series, which consists of three scalable devices, print at 30ppm in both black and color. They include a first-print-out time of 12 seconds and a monthly duty cycle of 50,000 pages.

The three devices are:

  • The Phaser 6510N ($319) is the base model that includes standard Ethernet connectivity.
  • The Phaser 6510DN includes standard automatic duplexing.
  • The Phaser 6510DNI includes standard wireless connectivity.

More details are found in our Features section below.

The Phaser 6510 Color Printer has strong features, such as low operating cost (and a choice of standard, high and extra-high capacity toner cartridges), wireless connectivity and mobile printing and secure printing.

Features

The Phaser 6510 starts with a 733MHz processor and 1GB of memory that’s not expandable. PCL and PostScript are supported as well as USB and Ethernet connectivity.

Wireless connectivity is standard on the 6510DNI model but are optional on the other two devices. These devices also support mobile printing. The Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print apps are standard, while the Mopria Print Service Plug-In and Xerox Print Service Plug-in for Android apps are free to download onto mobile devices.

We also want to point out that Xerox has a new Mobile Link App that will be available in early 2017. This app will allow users to print data saved on the cloud from a Xerox printer. Also, available in Xerox’s MFPs only, users can scan, fax and email documents from their mobile devices with this app.

Standard paper supply starts with a 250-sheet tray and a 50-sheet bypass. There is the option to add a 550-sheet tray for $199. Maximum paper capacity is 850 sheets. All trays accept up to 8.5″ x 14″ paper size.

Automatic duplexing is supported; it’s optional on the 6510N but standard on the other two models.

Paper output is a 150-sheet tray; there are no finishers.

Other printing features include the PANTONE solid color simulation (for the ability to make color corrections to the material before printing), watermarks, fit print to page and saved print, to name a few.

Xerox offers a choice of three types of aftermarket toner cartridges: standard, high-capacity and extra-high-capacity. We’ve calculated the cost per page based on the high-capacity black cartridge (5,500-page yield) and extra-high-capacity color toner cartridges (4,300-page yield for each color): 2.2 cents in black and 13.4 cents in color.  The calculations doesn’t include the drum cartridges (48,000-page yields for each four cartridge). According to Xerox, based on an average number of printing per month (approximately 450 pages) the drum cartridges wouldn’t likely need replacing during the life of the device.

Shortcomings

The paper trays doesn’t accept ledger-sized (11″ x 17″) paper. Also, these printers are not intended for larger offices.
