Product Overview

Canon has refreshed its imageFORMULA DR-C225W scanner that was launched a few years ago. The new scanner consists of two configurations: the DR-C225 II ($449) and the DR-C225W II ($549).  The main difference between the two devices is that the DR-C225W II has standard wireless connectivity.

Both scanners has a speed of 25 ppm in black, grayscale, and color. Their duplex speed is 50 ipm. At approximately 6lbs., they both are compact enough to place on a desktop. Daily duty cycle is 1,500 pages.

The DR-C225 II configurations include a three-year limited advanced exchange warranty.

Please refer to the Features section below for more details.

The imageFORMULA DR-C225 II and DR-C225W II are affordable, compact, and has excellent scanning features, especially the ability to scan to the cloud or to mobile devices.

Features

Like other Canon models, the DR-C225 II/DR-C225W II are loaded with excellent features. They have strong native imaging technology, and comes with dynamic thresholding and smoothing as well as text enhancement. In addition, Canon provides auto color detection, so they can detect pages with color to eliminate pre-sorting of mixed batch documents.

Other features include automatic size detection and deskewing, so that various-size documents in a batch are handled without operator intervention. There’s also a feature called Moiré Reduction, which can enhance the quality of scanned-in images.

There is a 30-sheet document feeder. Connectivity is supported via USB on both devices, and wireless on the DR-C225W II. Using the Canon CaptureOnTouch Mobile app, users can scan to any mobile device, such as iOS and Android devices. Users can also scan to the cloud, such as SharePoint, Dropbox, Evernote, Google Drive, and OneDrive.

Color dropout is standard, either one of the standard red, green, and blue colors. Ultrasonic double-feed detection is standard, using one ultrasonic sensor.

You can scan documents from business card size (2″ x 2.1″) to 11″ x 118″, using Folio Mode or Long Document Mode.

There is also a feature called multistreaming. This allows the scanner to process both color and black-and-white (or grayscale) images at the same time, so that you can create multipurpose documents. For example, you can create a color image for archiving and a bitonal one for OCR conversion.

Bundled software includes Canon CaptureOnTouch, Nuance eCopy PDF Pro Office, and Cardiris.

About

Canon is the number-one copier company in the U.S. if measured by the total number of units sold.

The company has an impressive line of multifunctional devices, and it’s one of the leaders in this market. Most of Canon’s multifunction printer (MFP) line carries the imageRUNNER brand name.

Over the years, Canon’s print controller strategy has involved partnering with EFI, the third-party controller company that dominates the color market. The company also relies on controllers developed by Canon itself. The controllers, which feature Canon’s IP architecture (the “IP” stands for “Image Platform”), can be found on all imageRUNNER models.

Canon’s MEAP architecture (Multifunctional Embedded Application Program) has been a significant addition to Canon’s controller strategy. It’s featured on most of its mid-to-high-volume models. The MEAP platform features an open architecture for providing custom software applications, some for private use and others sold on the open market as add-on products from third parties.
