Features

Paper handling: These models have excellent paper-handling capabilities. Automatic duplexing is standard. Standard paper capacity is 3,100 sheets. There is a two-drawer tandem compartment, one tray holding 1,200 sheets and the other tray holding 800 sheets. There are also two 500-sheet trays that hold up to 12″ x 18″ paper. There is a 100-sheet bypass tray for the devices themselves, as well as an optional 500-sheet bypass tray ($1,760). The 500-sheet bypass tray must require the optional 5,000-sheet tray.

For other options, you can choose between a 3,500-sheet letter-size tray ($1,570) and a 3,000-sheet ledger-size tray ($3,050). There is also the 5,000-sheet large-capacity tray ($6,700) that accept up to ledger-sized paper handling. The maximum paper capacity is 8,500 sheets.

There is a standard single-pass duplexing document feeder– it has a 150-sheet capacity and can scan paper up to 2000ipm.

Aside from the standard 250-sheet exit tray, the machines offer optional finishers. First, there is the 4,000-sheet high-capacity stacker with 50-sheet stapling ($3,050). You can add a saddle-stiching unit to that finisher for $4,725. There’s also a finisher with 100-sheet multiposition stapling with a 4,000-sheet stacking capacity ($7,550). It also has an optional saddle-stitching finishing unit ($10,720). The finishers support several additional options, such as a two-tray inserter unit ($3,860), a face trimmer ($6,700), a GBC SmartPunch Pro ($15,000), and a multi-folding unit ($15,700).

MFP Features: These machines has a 1.9GHz processor and standard 6GB of memory. A standard hard drive holds 1TB.

PCL and PostScript are standard. Users can also directly print PDF files and select Microsoft Office formats. USB, Ethernet and wireless connectivity are standard. Mobile printing and scanning are supported via the Sharpdesk Mobile App.

The models offer standard network scanning as well as optional PC fax and Internet fax. Also included is a single user license for Sharpdesk desktop document management software, which is a utility that allows you to program the models with email addresses, FTP servers and network PCs as destinations for scanned documents using a networked PC. The scan function includes both LDAP support and network authentication. File formats include TIFF, PDF, XPS, PDF/A and encrypted PDF.

These models can also (OCR) scan to Microsoft Office formats such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

There’s a compact PDF feature that can reduce the size of scanned color documents, making it more manageable to scan and save those documents.

Sharp also offers Cloud Portal Office service for storing and sharing documents in the cloud. Users can also access cloud apps such as Microsoft OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online and Google Drive.

Security features include account management, 256-bit encryption, user authentication, SSL encryption, and confidential printing. There is also the Tracking and Auditing feature to help users track control of each device on the network. Finally, as an option, there is the Data Security Kit that includes features such as Data Overwrite on-demand, restricted status display, and Incorrect Password Lockout.

Shortcomings

As these machines are intended for the light production environment, they’re too robust for a medium-sized or even some larger offices. Those offices can check out other Sharp machines, such as the MX-5070N Series.
