Product Overview
OKI has recently released four new color devices aimed at the small-to-medium business market. The four devices are newer generations of its older counterparts, adding new features such as higher print speed and mobile printing capability.
One of those devices is the C712dn ($999), which replaces the older C711 Series. The C712dn prints at 37ppm in black and 35ppm in color. It includes a 533MHz processor and a standard 256MB of memory, which optionally expands to 768MB. OKI offers an optional 16GB hard drive.
First-page-out time is 8 seconds in black and 9 seconds in color. The monthly duty cycle is 100,000 pages a month, but OKI recommends an average of up to 6,000 pages.
More details on the C712dn is in our Features section below.
Like other OKI devices, the C712dn includes strong features, such as fast print speed, mobile printing and low energy use. It’s worth a look for small-to-medium businesses that normally outsource specific printing tasks (i.e. marketing materials) and want to keep it in house.
Features
The C712dn includes PCL and PostScript printing language. It also supports standard USB and Ethernet connectivity as well as optional wireless. Mobile printing is also supported via apps such as Google Cloud Print 2.0 and Apple AirPrint.
Paper handling starts with a 530-sheet main tray and a 100-sheet bypass. OKI offers two additional 530-sheet trays as options for a total of 1,690 sheets. The three 530-sheet trays accept up to 8.5″ x 14″ paper, while the bypass accommodates banner sizes of up to 52″.
Output consists of a 350-sheet output bin. Duplexing is standard.
The C712dn contains a Utility Suite that includes features, such as color correct, color swatch utility, print job accounting, web driver installer and PDF direct print, to name a few.
As with other OKI devices, the C712dn includes energy-saving features such as duplexing, LED printing technology, Toner Save mode and is ENERGY STAR compliant.
The C712dn’s aftermarket consumables consists of a 11,000-page black toner cartridge, 11,500-page each color toner cartridges (cyan, magenta and yellow) and 30,000-page image drums. According to our calculations, the cost per page is 1.7 cents in black and 10.7 cents in color. These are very good operating costs, especially for color printing. However, businesses can control costs by utilizing the energy-saving features of the C712dn.
The C712dn has a one-year on-site warranty and a five-year limited warranty on the LED printheads.
