Product Overview

The new bizhub C3100P joins its multifunction cousin, the bizhub C3110, in Konica Minolta’s color line-up. The C3100P runs at 32ppm in both black and color; it has a first print time of 12.9 seconds in both modes. Warm-up time is a good 36 seconds.

This printer utilizes Konica Minolta’s Emperon controller. It has 1GB of standard memory with the option to add up to 2GB maximum. There is an optional 320GB hard drive. USB and Ethernet are standard; Wi-Fi is optional. The C3100P supports PCL and PostScript, as well as direct printing of PDF, JPEG, TIFF, and XPS.

Please refer to our Features section below for more details.

The bizhub C3100P has a good speed, decent paper handling, and a wide variety of security features. It is a good buy for small-to-medium businesses that don’t have a lot of printing needs and need a compact printer.

Features

Paper handling is decent for this level of the market.  It starts with a 250-sheet tray and a 100-sheet manual bypass. There is an optional 500-sheet tray for a total of 850 sheets.  For output, there is a standard 200-sheet tray and an optional 50-sheet convenience stapler.  The monthly duty cycle is 120,000 pages.

The C3100P uses PageScope software, which includes features such as WebConnection, Net Care Device Manager, and Mobile. Security features include IP filtering and port blocking, user authentication, secure print (included in the optional hard drive), HDD data overwrite, and HDD data encryption.

We don’t have the information to calculate the cost per page, however, based on history, we think this will be similar to older Konica Minolta machines. The yield for the toner (for all colors) is 6,000 pages with the imaging unit’s yield as 30,000 pages each for black and color.

Shortcomings

We don’t have the information to calculate the cost per page, however, based on history, we think this will be similar to older Konica Minolta machines. Customers should negotiate toner prices with their Konica Minolta dealer.
