It’s also a part of the Microsoft Office 365 for Education suite that allows teachers to deliver online learning experiences to their students. Office 365 for Education has three pricing plans. Note that institutions will need to contact Microsoft for a custom quote.

Office 365 A1

As mentioned above, this is a free plan for students, teachers and staff. It includes access to many of Microsoft’s apps like:

  • Access (PC only)
  • Bookings (app that lets parents schedule appointments with teacher/faculty)
  • The ability to install the Office desktop apps on up to five PCs/Macs per user
  • The ability to install the Office apps on up to five tablets/phones per user
  • Viva Insights (advanced personal analytics feature for faculty)
  • Office 365 Cloud App Security

Office 365 A5

The Office 365 A5 plan includes all of the features of the Office 365 A3 plan, plus:

  • The ability to plan and schedule daily tasks with Teams
  • Power BI
  • Advanced security features (e.g., Customer Lockbox)
  • Audio conferencing
  • Optional calling plan

Conclusion

Microsoft Teams, and most other Microsoft apps, are free for schools (note that the school will have to verify they’re an accredited institution). Once a school signs up for Office 365, teachers and students can create an account by simply using their school email address.
