Brightpearl At A Glance

Good: Intuitive and easy to use, companies can manage their businesses from a single system, integration with third-party applications.
Bad: Targeted only to retailers and wholesalers; HR features are not offered.
Bottom Line: Brightpearl is a cloud-based ERP system designed to help retailers and wholesalers align their business processes, including orders, inventory, customer data, accounting and reporting in one platform.

Product Overview

Brightpearl is a cloud-based ERP for retailers and wholesalers of all sizes that aims to automate the back office, so merchants can spend their time and money focusing on customers and growing their businesses.

The solution enables omnichannel merchants to manage their businesses from a single system, helping them to align online and offline sales in addition to other processes that go along with running a business across platforms.

Brightpearl offers a complete back office solution that includes financial management, inventory and sales order management, customer relationship management (CRM), purchasing and supplier management, fulfillment, warehouse and logistics.

Additionally, Brightpearl integrates with major ecommerce platforms and online marketplaces, including BigCommerce, Magento, Shopify, Amazon and eBay.

The company has also built apps to support credit/debit card payments, email marketing, demand planning tools and more. And its partners provide integrations to popular shipping carriers, including UPS, DHL and FedEx.

Because Brightpearl is built only for merchants, the company understands the detailed differences between various trading models (i.e., wholesale, distribution, retail, online, offline, marketplace) or any combination of these models.

Brightpearl offers real-time reports to enable customers to understand how they’re performing across all channels. Clients can view sales and profits across all channels, product categories and vendors. And they can drill down to individual customers, specific orders and more, all in real time.

Features

Brightpearl’s features include:

  • Retail Accounting: Brightpearl offers a real-time financial management and accounting solution that’s built specifically for retail and wholesale businesses. It provides real-time financial insights across the entire business, including inventory, sales and purchasing. The software lets users keep track of the products they’re selling day to day, as well as determine how its products are selling and which channels are earning money.
  • Sales Order Management: Brightpearl provides efficient order workflows through real-time order creation, advanced workflow automation rules and integrated shipping. This is combined with flexible returns management, real-time sales profitability, an integrated point-of-sale system, inventory, purchasing, CRM, warehouse management and accounting systems.
  • Inventory Management: Brightpearl’s inventory management software enables companies to easily maintain accurate inventories through automatic updates across all sales channels and offers visibility across all locations. It also allows companies to determine how much stock they have on their premises at any one point in time. This allows customers to consistently improve their profitability by decreasing the risk of overselling.
  • Warehouse and Fulfillment: Brightpearl offers an integrated warehouse management system that supports barcode scanning, efficient inventory counts, flexible fulfillment options for retail and wholesale businesses, and back office automation. The solution also fully integrates with an organization’s inventory management, sales order management, purchase and supplier management, customer service and accounting systems.
  • Purchase Order and Supplier Management: Brightpearl enables companies to centralize their inventory, sales, purchasing, accounting and reporting data into a single system. This lets them reliably forecast demand and prevents them from purchasing items that don’t sell well. And integrated warehousing means customers can coordinate across multiple inventory locations, ensuring their products are where they’re needed most.
  • Customer Management and Marketing: Brightpearl offers an integrated CRM system that supports real-time tracking of call notes, order history and emails. It also integrates with email marketing solutions through the use of automatic segmentation. The CRM system gives organizations access to 360-degree views of all contacts and customer interactions. It also enables companies to manage all types of relationships (i.e., retail customer, wholesale client, product supplier).
  • Retail Analytics: Users get a 360-degree view into their sales, marketing, stock availability and other key metrics via a dashboard. Brightpearl pulls in data from multiple sources, such as Google Analytics, sales channels, and Facebook Ads, and data is updated in real time. Additional analytics features include industry benchmarking and product optimization.

Implementation/Integration

Because every implementation is different, Brightpearl builds a tailored project plan to support each customer’s journey. A skilled team of business consultants guides customers from the demonstration stage all the way through to project launch. The team employs quality review checkpoints at each stage of the implementation to ensure customers reach their goals.

A consultant will work with the customer to ensure the solution is tailored to its business needs. Brightpearl’s analysts will thoroughly validate a customer’s business data to ensure accuracy, uniformity and a logical structure to improve performance across the business. The consultant will advise the customer on the best practices for importing customer data and help to develop an effective methodology for managing these contacts.

As part of the account set up, a customer’s consultant will establish and test the connections to its online marketplaces and ecommerce sites, ensuring a seamless integration with its selling channels.

The consultant will also advise on integrations with other applications and show the customer how to streamline its shipping workflow with apps such as Shiptheory and ShipStation.

In addition, Brightpearl’s open API enables the company to support custom integrations as required.

Customer Service & Support

Customers can submit support tickets via an online form. Support agents are available to respond to tickets 24/7.

Phone support is available to all customers, and Brightpearl also offers an extensive help center for customers that covers such things as getting started, information for developers and account set up. The company also offers a resource center with a variety of content pertaining to retail and wholesale operations.

Pricing

Brightpearl’s pricing is geared towards companies with over 1,500 orders per month, and it accommodates unlimited users and sales channels. Its Order Management Solution targets companies with less than 1,500 orders per month – the solution supports five users and five sales channels.

Prospective customers should contact Brightpearl for a price quote.

Shortcomings

Brightpearl is not for every business. In fact, it is explicitly designed for omnichannel retailers and wholesalers. And despite its comprehensive breadth, the suite doesn’t contain a human resources solution.

About

In 2006, skateboard retailing entrepreneur Chris Tanner started developing Brightpearl to help keep track of production and sales at his Lush Longboards retail business. He soon realized that his software could help many other retailers who were struggling with some of the same challenges. After one customer successfully piloted Brightpearl in the summer of 2007, Tanner decided to sell Lush and focus on developing Brightpearl. He then contacted Andy Mulvenna, a friend from college, and the pair reunited to get Brightpearl off the ground.

Headquartered in Bristol, United Kingdom, Brightpearl also has an office in Austin, Texas.

Brightpearl is now owned by the Sage Group.
