Product Overview

This Ricoh family replaces the older MP C3002 series with newer features, including the 60ppm addition (MP C6003) to the lineup. Each machine offer color speeds that match their black-and-white speeds, as well as copying, printing, and scanning as default features. Faxing is optional. The differences among these models are in speed, print memory, document feeder, and finishing options.

There are five models in this family:

  • The MP C3003 ($12,500) copies and prints at 30ppm in both modes. It has a 600MHz processor, 1.5GB of memory, and a first copy out time of 7.1 seconds in color.
  • The MP C3503 ($14,900) has the same attributes as MP C3003 but runs at a speed of 35ppm.
  • The MP C4503 ($18,590) runs at 45ppm in both modes. It has a 1GHz processor, 2GB of memory, and first copy out time of 5.7 seconds in color.
  • The MP C5503 ($22,014) has a speed of 55ppm in both color and black and white. The first copy out time in color is 4.5 seconds.
  • The MP C6003 ($25,315) runs at 60ppm in both modes.

Ricoh offers an optional Fiery color controller that includes a 2.9GHz processor and 2GB of memory. It supports various color tools, such as ICC profile color chart, RGB color tests, and ColowWise Pro tools.

More details on these devices’ features are mentioned in our Features section below.

These are very strong machines that support a wide range of offices from small workgroup to departmental. Ricoh continues to provide strong, rugged, and innovative machines. We give this family our Editor’s Choice Award.

Features

Paper supplies: All the models come with a standard paper capacity of 1,200 sheets fed from two 550-sheet trays and a 100-sheet bypass. You can optionally add a second two-tray bank for 1,100 more sheets or add a 2,000-sheet large-capacity tray. All of these models can be configured with an alternative 1,500-sheet large-capacity tray as well. Lastly, there is a 550-sheet option, which requires an optional caster table. Total paper capacity is 4,700 sheets.

The standard 100-sheet-capacity reversing automatic document feeder scans originals for the MP C3003 and MP C3503. For the remaining models, there is the standard 220-sheet single-pass duplexing feeder.

Output and finishing features: All models start with a standard 500-sheet output tray. There’s an optional 125-sheet one-bin tray and a 250-sheet internal shift-sort tray.

There are multiple finishing options. First, there is a 500-sheet dual-position internal stapler that staples up to 50 sheets; it is available for all the models except for the MP C6003. In addition, there’s a 1,000-sheet booklet-making finisher with saddlestitching and 50-sheet multiposition stapling. There’s also a 2/3-hole punch kit for the booklet maker.

The MP C4503, MP C5503, and MP C6003 have an optional 2,000-sheet booklet maker with saddlestitching and 50-sheet multiposition stapling. A 2/3-hole punch unit is optional for this finisher. They also offer a 3,000-sheet finisher with 50-sheet multiposition stapling and an optional 2/3-hole punch unit.

Finally, all machines offer an optional external 1,000-sheet stapler finisher with 50-sheet dual-position stapling. A 2/3-hole punch is optional for this finisher as well.

Multifunctional features: Scan-to functions include email (with LDAP support), folder (SMB, FTP, and NCP), and URL. Scan-to-media is supported with an optional USB/SD card slot option, which gives users the capability to scan to a USB flash drive and other similar devices.

The optional fax kit runs at 33.6kbps with 4MB of memory. You can purchase an additional 28MB of memory. LAN fax and Internet fax is supported.

The print function includes PCL and Ethernet network connectivity. If you want the PostScript upgrade, that will cost you more.

Security features: Ricoh continues to expand its security options, including the ability to make copying secure and confidential, user authentication, and flexible time of day controls (e.g. holding printing jobs at night). Also new is a 256-bit encryption and ability to overwrite data on the hard drive.
