Product Overview

Epson has recently debuted a new color MFP, the WorkForce EC-C7000, aimed at the home and small office market. It has standard printing, copying, scanning faxing functions, and it also uses the PrecisionCore Heat-Free Technology that eliminates heat in the printing process, saving time and consuming less power. The WorkForce EC-C7000 prints at up to 25 ppm in black and up to 12 ppm in color (note that these are ISO speeds) in simplex and up to 16 ppm in black and up to 9 ppm in color in duplex.

There is a 4.3″ color touchscreen and the device supports USB, Ethernet and wireless connectivity. Users can print from their mobile devices via the Epson Connect solution, Apple AirPrint, Kindle Fire and Google Cloud Print. Within the Epson Connect are the following features: Email Print, iPrint Mobile App, Scan to Cloud, Creative Print and Remote Print. In addition, the the WorkForce EC-C7000 is compatible with the Epson Smart Panel App for advanced features, such as setting up wireless networks and checking ink levels, from a mobile device.

More details is in our Features section below.

The WorkForce EC-C7000 is sold through the Business Technology Association (BTA) reseller channel, so unfortunately, we don’t have a list price. Companies can contact their local reseller for a price quote.

There is a 550-sheet paper capacity that consists of two 250-sheet front trays and a 50-sheet rear tray. The WorkForce EC-C7000 accepts paper sizes of up to 13″ x 19″. There’s a 50-sheet automatic document feeder. The maximum duty cycle is 50,000 pages, but Epson recommends a monthly page volume of up to 2,300 sheets.

Scanning is done via a color CIS sensor. It supports scan-to-PC, scan-to-cloud, scan-to-email, scan-to-flash drive and scan-to-PDF. File formats supported include PDF, JPEG and TIFF. The Epson ScanSmart feature lets users scan, edit and share documents.

Faxing is supported via a 33.6kbps modem. Memory is up to 550 pages and PC faxing is standard.

Epson offers standard and high-capacity ink cartridges. The high-capacity black and color cartridges each can print up to 1,100 pages before running out, but the extra-high-capacity black ink cartridge accommodates up to 2,200 pages. We don’t have pricing information to calculate the cost per page, but companies expect to save money on ink cartridges in the long run by utilizing the high-capacity ink cartridges and the duplexing feature.

Finally, there is a two-year limited warranty.

Because the WorkForce EC-C7000 is only available via the BTA reseller channel, users can’t purchase it from the vendor’s site or from retailers like Staples or Best Buy.

Epson America is a division of Japan-based Seiko Epson Corporation, a manufacturer and supplier of imaging products, semiconductors, liquid crystal displays, and watches. The company has been an innovative designer of ink jet printers and sells an extensive product line. Most of these are geared to home and school use, but Epson continues to extend its line further into the office environment.

Epson has been making a more aggressive play for the document scanner market, although the company’s been in the multipurpose office scanner business for years. The models and other additions to its model line seem to be part of an effort to further extend its current scanner technology. As part of this effort, Epson makes these scanners available in consumer electronics stores such as Best Buy, along with Epson dealers and on its website.
