BudgetPak At A Glance

Good: Flexible budgeting and forecasting features, intuitive interface, access controls that help finance provide budgeting transparency.
Bad: BudgetPak focuses on budgeting and forecasting, so it's not a full-fledged accounting solution.
Bottom Line: With flexible and easy-to-learn features, BudgetPak helps finance teams in small to medium-sized businesses better plan and stay within their budgets.

Product Overview

BudgetPak is a cloud-based budgeting and forecasting solution aimed at small to medium-sized businesses. It includes an intuitive interface so the finance team and other executives can easily run the numbers and make critical budgeting decisions.

BudgetPak’s budgeting and forecasting modules can be purchased separately or together. The solution also includes integrated reporting and analytics features.

The software has several benefits, such as:

  • Hosted in the cloud, so there’s no equipment to purchase and no need to worry about hosting data
  • Flexible budgeting features that are customizable to a company’s unique requirements
  • Easy-to-learn self-service features that don’t require programming knowledge
  • Access to finance data down to the account level
  • Less time to prepare an accurate budget since users won’t have to worry about broken Excel formulas or other errors
  • Provides budgeting transparency to non-finance users (e.g., department managers or executives), but still controls their level of access to finance data
  • Integration to Excel for more advanced calculations and other functions
  • Integration to enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems

For companies that want to deploy BudgetPack on their servers, XLerant also offers an on-premise option.

Features

BudgetPak has a wide range of budgeting features, including:

ActionPaks – ActionPaks give users the ability to budget multiple line items allocated to specific projects at the same time. Users can also remove money from a specific project if it doesn’t get approved.

Revenue and expense planning – BudgetPak’s revenue and expense planning features help users make sure all departments meet finance-approved budgeting guidelines.  It includes top-down controls to ensure all internal calculations and allocations are correct, as well as bottom-up flexibility that allows department managers to provide input on the numbers.

Headcount and salary planning – BudgetPak has a step-by-step process for users to plan out salaries for each employee. The process can be controlled by the finance team and is flexible enough to allow for any personnel changes.

Asset planning – The solution includes a catalog of pre-defined asset codes users can choose to create an asset plan.

Forecasting – BudgetPak’s forecasting module includes automatic data merge, which combines both actual and budgeted spending numbers. Finance can also determine a custom starting point for end-user forecasting – for example, using total costs based either on an existing budget or actual spending.

Reporting – The software offers reporting and analytical tools with built-in, customizable dashboards and reporting templates. Users can perform a “what-if” analysis and scenario planning, and review other analytics. Reports can be exported to Excel or PDF. BudgetPak also offers bidirectional integration with Excel for report writing, pivot tables, complex models and other features that require the use of Excel.
