BI Office At A Glance

Good: Analytics and data discovery tools are all in one place, data mining functionality, mobile and Cloud BI capability.
Bad: Only designed to run with current Microsoft products, need to add more collaboration features and other user interface enhancements.
Bottom Line: Pyramid Analytics' BI Office is a business intelligence tool based on the Microsoft BI platform, including complex OLAP analysis and in-memory capabilities.

Product Overview

BI Office is distinct for its governed data discovery approach, meaning that a complete spectrum of analytics and data discovery tools are available within a single place.

BI Office includes four key components: Data Modeler (for assembling data in an IT-governed environment), Data Discovery (for conducting all levels of analytics), Story Board (for integrating data queries from multiple sources via dashboards that can be shared with internal and external users) and Publisher (for creating data content and reports that can be shared via alerts and email as well as in multiple file formats).

Two of Pyramid’s more notable features include their Mobile and Cloud BI offerings.

Their Mobile web-based interface includes native apps for iOS, Windows and Android, and allows users to access their data anytime, anywhere. Because mobility is inherent in the Pyramid strategy and an integral part of the BI Office infrastructure, it operates much more cleanly and naturally. A simple, intuitive interface allows users to directly access what they need to see, no matter where they are.

Pyramid’s Cloud BI helps organizations overcome infrastructure challenge by enabling agile self-service BI and enhancing analytic capabilities. Complementing the Mobile offering, Cloud BI helps Power BI end-users be much more flexible in how (and from where) they access their information. Elastic server hosting means that delivery of data is efficient and quick, while maintaining the speed necessary for real-time insights.

In early 2015, the BI Office solution received new enhancements to the data modeling and data discovery capabilities.  Another big upgrade was in mobile BI – users can now perform most analytical functions while on the go, such as drilling down and slicing data and viewing large amounts of data.

In 2016, additional enhancements in data sources include a number of cloud data sources, new visualizations, and advanced analytics including reusable, shareable R-integration.

BI Office offers a robust array of features, including all of those listed here below. We also want to point out two additional features: Dynamic Images (which are “smart” infographics that are data driven) and Dynamic Text (which allows users to add in dynamically generated text in addition to static text).

  • Ad Hoc Analysis?

Pyramid is currently working on adding more of the following: cloud data sources, collaboration features and integration, and enhancements to the user interface to make it even more accessible.

Pyramid’s BI Office is designed to run with current Microsoft products. While this is excellent for those using Microsoft, Microsoft’s own evolving BI platform puts Pyramid’s current offerings at risk.
