Product Overview

The Xerox WorkCentre 7800i Series joins the WorkCentre 7970i as latest entries in Xerox’s color MFP lineup. It consists of four devices ranging in speed from 30ppm to 55ppm. They are:

  • WorkCentre 7830i ($14,748), which prints at 30ppm in both black and color and has 90,000 pages per month duty cycle
  • WorkCentre 7835i ($16,648), which prints at 35ppm in both black and color and has a duty cycle of 110,000 pages per month
  • WorkCentre 7845i ($20,754), which has a print and copy speed of 45ppm in both black and color and a duty cycle of 20,000 pages per month
  • WorkCentre 7855i ($24,854), which has a print and copy speed of 55ppm in black and 50ppm in color and has a duty cycle of 300,000 pages per month

All four devices offer standard printing, copying and scanning with optional faxing. Each device starts with a 1.2GHz processor, 250GB hard drive and 2GB of memory. First-page-out-time in color ranges from 7.1 seconds to 9 seconds. PCL and PostScript are standard, and XPS is optional. Standard connectivity includes USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi. Mobile printing and scanning is supported (more details are in our Features section below).

Each device has a 8.5″ customizable panel with one-touch workflows (e.g., copy, print, email, etc).

Xerox has introduced a new technology called ConnectKey designed to help users find workflows faster and improve office productivity by using apps. Users can download apps from the Xerox App Gallery such as Print from Dropbox and Scan to Microsoft Office 365. In addition to accessing the WorkCentre 7800i workflows from a desktop or mobile devices, users can also find common troubleshooting how-to’s straight from the device. ConnectKey also helps administrators cut printing costs by restricting color printing usage and setting user permissions.

More details on the devices are in our Features section below.

The WorkCentre 7800i is a scalable family of devices for medium-to-large companies that need tabloid-sized (11″ x 17″) color multifunctionality.

Features

Mobile printing and scanning: As mentioned above, the WorkCentre 7800i Series offer mobile printing and scanning. Standard mobile support includes Apple AirPrint, @PrintByXerox app, Xerox App Gallery and QRCode app. Mopria-certified smartphones are also supported. Xerox Mobile Print, Xerox Mobile Print Cloud and Xerox Easy Translator Service are optional.

Paper handling: Each device starts with a 520-sheet tray and a 100-sheet bypass. They support up to 12.6″ x 19″ in paper size and 300 gsm in weight. On the WorkCentre 7830i and 7835i MFPs, there is a three-tray option that totals 2,180 sheets (from three 520-sheet trays). Xerox also offers a high-capacity tandem tray on all devices that totals 3,140 sheets (from a 520-sheet tray, 867-sheet tray and 1,133-sheet tray). The tandem tray only accepts letter-sized (8.5″ x 11″) paper.

There is also an optional 2,000-sheet high-capacity feeder and an envelope tray that holds up to 60 envelopes. All four MFPs include a duplexing automatic document feeder. The 7830i and 7835i includes a 110-sheet document feeder, while the 7845i and 7855i includes a single-pass duplexing document feeder that scans at up to 133ipm and accepts up to 130 sheets.

Standard output includes a dual catch tray of 250 sheets each and a face-up tray of 100 sheets. There are many different finishing options. First, there is the office finisher that stacks up to 2,000 sheets and includes a 50-sheet double-position stapling; users can add an optional hole punch and booklet maker (with saddlestitching) to this finisher.

Second, there is the Professional Finisher that has a 500-sheet top tray and a 1,500-sheet stacker. It includes 50-sheet multiposition stapling, as well as hole punch, saddlestitch booklet maker and V-fold.

Third, there is the 50-sheet convenience stapler with a work surface for sorting paper.

And finally, there is the integrated office finisher for the 7830i and 7835i machines only. It includes a 500-sheet stacker and 50-sheet single-position stapling.

Multifunctionality: The scanning function supports scanning to several destinations, including mailbox, USB, email and network. File formats supported includes PDF, PDF/A, JPEG, TIFF, searchable PDF and password-protected PDFs, to name a few. Optional scanning features include ConnectKey for DocuShare and scanning to desktop. The optional faxing function supports Internet fax, faxing forward to email and SMB and walkup fax.

Security: The WorkCentre 7800i Series includes many standard security features, such as embedded McAfee anti-virus solution, hard drive overwrite, 256-bit encryption, secure print, fax and scan, network authentication and user permissions, to name a few. Optional features are the Xerox PrintSafe software, McAfee integrity control and the Smart Card enablement kit.

Cost per page: The WorkCentre 7800i Series has four optional aftermarket toners (black, cyan, magenta and yellow) with very-good page yields (15,000 pages for each color and 26,000 pages for black). Based on yields and prices, we’ve calculated the cost per page at under 1 cent in black and 4.5 cents in color. This is very remarkable as costs per page in this level of the market tend to be higher. Users can also contribute to lower printing costs by printing/scanning in duplex and reducing need to print pages in color.

EFI Fiery controller: Finally, Xerox offers an optional EFI Fiery Network Server. It comes with a 2.9GHZ controller, 1GB of memory and 500GB hard drive. PostScript language and Ethernet connectivity is supported. It includes features, such as PANTONE color tables, job preview and job merge, color settings and secure print, to name a few.
