Product Overview
The new ECOSYS M5521cdw joins three additional devices in Kyocera’s new color printer and MFP lineup intended for small businesses. This MFP ($1,365) prints and copies at 22ppm in both black and color. It includes standard printing, copying, scanning and faxing. The device includes a 5-line LCD screen with a hard key control panel.
The M5521cdw starts with a 800MHz processor and 512MB of memory. The memory can be expanded to 1.5GB. PCL and PostScript are standard as well as XPS and PDF direct print. The device also supports USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and mobile printing as standard features. Users can print from their mobile devices via Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print or Kyocera’s dedicated mobile print app.
The M5521cdw utilizes Kyocera’s PRESCRIBE and COMMAND CENTER RX business applications. With the PRESCRIBE app, users can create, store and print commonly-used forms from the device. The COMMAND CENTER RX app allows users and administrators to look up paper availability, toner status and other statuses of the device via a web browser.
More details on the M5521cdw is in our Features section below.
The ECOSYS M5521cdw provides a compact design and strong features for a small business looking to supplement its office equipment with a color MFP.
Features

There is a standard 50-sheet automatic document feeder. The maximum monthly duty cycle is 65,000 pages per month.
Color scanning is supported. Scans can be sent to folder, email, FTP and USB. TWAIN and WIA scanning is also supported. File formats include PDF, JPEG, TIFF and XPS.

Shortcomings
The M5521cdw doesn’t offer finishers even as an option and its paper capacity is only 550 sheets. This is ideal for small businesses but larger businesses that require more advanced paper-handling and other features can check out Kyocera’s other MFPs, such as the TASKalfa 6052ci Series.
Also, we don’t have any information to calculate the cost per page of the consumables. But based on Kyocera’s history of providing long-life consumables and other environmental features, the client can expect low cost per page over the life of the MFP.
