Kyocera ECOSYS M4100 Series Review

Good: 11" x 17" paper handling, 1,600-sheet maximum paper capacity, standard wireless and mobile printing functionality.

Product Overview

The ECOSYS M4100 Series are two newest devices in Kyocera’s ECOSYS lineup of A3 (11″ x 17″) black-and-white MFPs. Both MFPs include standard printing, copying, and scanning functions and optional faxing.

The ECOSYS M4125idn ($4,723) copies and prints at up to 25ppm and includes a first-print-time of 5.8 seconds and a monthly duty cycle of 80,000 pages. It also includes a 4.3″ color touch screen interface.

The ECOSYS M4132idn ($5,879) copies and prints at up to 32ppm and includes a first-print-time of 5.2 seconds and a monthly duty cycle of 100,000 pages. It also includes a 7″ color touch screen interface.

Both devices come with a 1.2GHz processor and 1 GB of memory that’s expandable to 3 GB. Kyocera offers two optional hard disk drives – one that’s 32 GB and another that’s 128 GB. PCL and PostScript are standard as well as XPS and PDF direct print.

Kyocera’s HyPAS functionality is standard with the optional disk drive for running Kyocera’s business applications.

The devices also support USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and mobile printing as standard features. Users can print from their mobile devices via Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print or Kyocera’s dedicated mobile print app.

The ECOSYS M4100 are two flexible black-and-white MFPs that are good buys for small-to-medium-sized offices that need a multifunctional device but not color output.


Paper handling on both devices start with a 500-sheet tray and a 100-sheet bypass. Users can optionally add a set of two 500-sheet trays ($819) or a single 500-sheet feeder with cabinet drawer ($549). The maximum input is 1,600 sheets.

The output tray is 250 sheets. The M4125idn doesn’t support any finishers, but the M4132idn has an optional 500-sheet finisher with 50-sheet multiposition stapling.

Both devices include a 50-sheet reversing automatic document feeder. Duplexing is standard.

Color scanning is supported. Scans can be sent to folder, email, FTP and USB. TWAIN and WIA scanning is also supported. File formats include PDF, JPEG, TIFF and XPS.

The faxing function includes a 33.6kbps modem with JBIG compression. Fax memory up to 12 MB is supported. Other fax features include duplex faxing, one touch dial and quick dial.

Standard security features include local and network authentication and LDAP, to name a few. There is an optional card authentication kit.

Distribution: Kyocera Mita sells its copiers primarily through dealers, though it has recently been expanding its direct organization and now has about 10 branches. It has more dealers than some of its rivals — approximately 420, compared to an industry average of about 350.
