Product Overview

Kyocera has released a new series of A4 (8.5″ x 14″) black-and-white MFPs targeted to the medium and large workgroups. The ECOSYS M3860idnf Series consist of two devices that offer standard copying, printing, scanning and faxing functions. The ECOSYS M3860idn copies and prints at up to 62 ppm and has a first-page-out time of 4.5 seconds. The ECOSYS M3860idnf has similar specs but includes an inner finisher.

Both devices comes with a 1,200 MHz (or 1.2 GHz) processor, 1 GB of memory that’s expandable to 3 GB and a 320 GB hard drive. There’s a 7″ color touchscreen tablet-like interface enabling users to connect to Kyocera’s HyPAS software platform to customize their workflows.

The software includes features such as Cloud Connect (for scanning to and printing from the cloud), mobile print, DMS Link for keeping up with document management needs, PinPoint Scan for scanning-to-PC functionality, and Microsoft Sharepoint Connector. Users can print from their mobile devices via Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print or Kyocera’s dedicated mobile print app.

Both devices include printing languages, such as PCL, PostScript, XPS, PDF direct print, and Kyocera’s proprietary PRESCRIBE printing language. USB and Ethernet connectivity are standard, and Wi-Fi is optional.

The devices also include Kyocera Fleet Services, a cloud-based monitoring service that lets dealers perform routine maintenance tasks for their customers remotely.

More details is in our Features section below.

Paper handling includes a 500-sheet tray and a 100-sheet bypass. Users can optionally add up to four 500-sheet trays for a maximum capacity of 2,600 sheets. All paper trays support up to 8.5″ x 14″ paper.

The output tray is 500 sheets. The ECOSYS M3860idnf also includes a 500-sheet inner finisher with an auto-stapling capacity of up to 50 sheets. Both devices has a 100-sheet dual-scan document feeder. The monthly duty cycle is 300,000 pages.

Users can scan both black and color documents and send them to email, FTP, SMB, USB, TWAIN or WIA.  They can scan in PDF, JPEG, TIFF and XPS file formats. The devices optionally supports searchable PDF and OCR.

The faxing function includes a 33.6kbps modem with JBIG compression, up to 6 MB of memory and duplexing.

Standard security features are LDAP, network and local authentication. Kyocera offers a data security kit that provides data overwrite and encryption functions. Additional features include a secure boot, run-time integrity check and PDF encryption. The ECOSYS M3860idnf includes the Trusted Platform Module Security Chip for additional security.
