Product Overview

Epson has recently released a new line of all-in-one printers aimed at its BusinessFirst reseller network. All devices include extended warranty and additional ink out of the box. Two of those printers are the WorkForce Pro WF-4720 Business Edition ($279.99) and the WorkForce Pro WF-4730 Business Edition ($299.99).

Both all-in-one printers include standard printing, copying, scanning and faxing features. They print at up to 20 ppm ISO in both black and color. This is in thanks to Epson’s inkjet technology, PrecisionCore. PrecsionCore uses a high-density print chip that can generate up to 40 million precise dots per second. This technology was originally found in Epson’s large-format printers and is now used in all of its printers and MFPs.

There’s a 2.7″ color touchscreen. The devices support Epson’s proprietary printing language, as well as USB, Ethernet and wireless connectivity. Mobile printing is also supported via the Epson Connect solution. Within the Epson Connect are the following features: Email Print, iPrint Mobile App, and Remote Print. Users can also print via the Apple AirPrint, Kindle Fire and Google Cloud Print.

The all-in-ones come with a two-year limited warranty. They also include a set of initial ink cartridges and a set of standard-capacity ink cartridges. Each set has four cartridges (black, cyan, yellow and magenta), so there’s eight ink cartridges altogether.

Both devices share the same specifications, except that the WF-4730 has a standard paper capacity of 500 sheets, while the WF-4720 includes a 250-sheet paper tray.

More information is in our Features section below.

The WorkForce Pro WF-4720 and WF-4730 Business Edition devices are compact all-in-ones that help small teams improve their productivity.

Features

The WorkForce Pro WF-4720 Business Edition includes a 250-sheet paper tray and a 35-sheet automatic document feeder. The paper tray supports paper sizes of up to 8.5″ x 47.2″. The WorkForce Pro WF-4730 includes a standard 500-sheet tray instead of a 250-sheet tray.

Duplexing is supported, and the duplex printing speed is up to 12 ppm (ISO) in black and color.

The monthly duty cycle is 25,000 pages, but Epson recommends a maximum page volume of up to 1,500 pages.

Copy speed is up to 20 cpm in black and 18 cpm in color (ISO). In addition to duplex copying, the devices support collating, resizing and adjustable copy density.

Scanning is done via a color CIS sensor. It supports scan-to-PC, scan-to-cloud, scan-to-email, scan-to-flash drive and password protected PDFs.

Faxing is supported via a 33.6kbps modem. Memory is up to 180 pages and PC faxing is standard.

In addition to standard-capacity cartridges, Epson offers replacement high-capacity ink cartridges. The black high-capacity yield is 2,600 pages, while each high-capacity color cartridge yield is 1,900 pages. We’ve calculated the high-capacity cost per page as 1.9 cents in black and 8.2 cents in color. These are very reasonable costs per page. Companies can take advantage of duplexing and other environmental features to reduce the printer’s operating costs even further.

Shortcomings
