Product Overview

Epson debuted two new scanners that’s targeted to the accounting and financial markets. The WorkForce ES-300WR ($399.99) is a portable scanner that scans at up to 25 ppm (in black and color) simplex and up to 50 ipm in duplex. The WorkForce ES-500WR document scanner ($499.99) scans at up to 35 ppm simplex and up to 70 ipm in duplex.

The duplex scanning is performed via the Single-Step Technology, which scans both sides of a paper in a single pass.

Both scanners include unique tools that makes it attractive to accounting firms, such as the Epson ScanSmart Accounting Edition Software. Another feature is the ability to extract data from receipts, invoices and other documents, and exporting the data to Excel or QuickBooks Online.

In addition to receipts and invoices, each device scans business cards and IDs. The WorkForce ES-500WR can scan extra-long pages of up to 240″.

The WorkForce ES-300WR and ES-500WR scanners are affordable buys for small accounting/finance teams or offices. Those businesses can either purchase the ES-300WR for its portability or the ES-500WR for its more advanced features. We like that it has easy file-sharing capabilities via email and cloud storage services.

Features

Both scanners support USB and wireless connectivity. The WorkForce ES-500WR has optional networking connectivity. Users can scan documents to cloud storage services, such as Google Drive, Evernote or Dropbox.

The WorkForce ES-300WR includes a 20-sheet automatic document feeder and a daily duty cycle of 500 sheets. The ES-500WR has a 50-sheet automatic document feeder and a daily duty cycle of 4,000 sheets.

In addition to the Epson ScanSmart Accounting Edition, both scanners include bundled software, such as the Nuance Power PDF for Windows, Nuance PDF Converter for Mac and NewSoft Presto! BizCard. The Nuance PDF features allow the user to create or convert searchable PDFS and highlighting text within them.

Both scanners also support TWAIN drivers.

The WorkForce ES-500WR includes additional features, such as the ultrasonic double feed detection and dynamic skew correction.

There’s a one-year limited warranty with an option to purchase an extended service plan.
