Product Overview
The new imageRUNNER 1643i Series is a part of Canon’s black-and-white MFP lineup aimed at companies that need a compact device. Both devices print and copy at up to 45 ppm and includes standard printing, copying and scanning functions. The imageRUNNER 1643iF offers built-in faxing.
Both MFPs include the Canon Custom Processor, 1 GB of memory (not expandable), and a 5″ color touchscreen control panel. The touchscreen works like a smartphone and supports customized printing workflows.
One way it does is Canon’s Application Library, a platform that lets administrators set up one-touch button for several key functions: Print Template, Standby Slide, Scan-to-Preset Destination, ID Card Copy, Consumables Information, Copy (Eco), Copy (Bleed Reduce), Passport Copy, Fax and Store and Copy (Enhance Text). Canon introduced two new functions, which are: Languages (to support multiple language environments) and Name and Scan (the ability to add a name to a scanned file).
First-print-out time is 5.7 seconds. The 1643i Series support Canon’s proprietary printing language and PCL. Note that PostScript is optional on the 1643i model (standard on the 1643iF configuration). USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi are standard. Users can directly print JPEG, PDF, and TIFF files. Mobile printing is supported via the Canon PRINT Business app.
Canon offers an optional uniFLOW portfolio that helps companies better manage their output. Deployed either in the cloud or on-premise, the solution allows administrators to track their printing costs. There’s also the imageWARE Enterprise Management Console, which is used to manage the entire Canon printer fleet from one location.
More details on this series is in our Features section below.
Features
The imageRUNNER 1643i Series include a 550-sheet paper tray and a 100-sheet bypass. Canon offers an optional 550-sheet paper feeder (that consists of up to three trays), adding to a maximum paper capacity of 2,300 sheets. All paper trays accept up to 8.5″ x 14″ paper.
The output capacity is 150 sheets. There is a single-pass duplexing document feeder that scans up to 70 ipm in black and 26 ipm in color. It holds 50 sheets.
Users can scan to email, SMB and FTP destinations. File formats supported are TIFF, JPEG, and PDF (both compact and searchable). LDAP authentication is supported.
The faxing function on the 1643iF uses a 33.6kbps modem with JBIG compression. Internet fax is supported.
Security features include department ID authentication, secure print, IP/MAC address filtering, and Wi-Fi authentication. The Verify System at Startup feature verifies that the device firmware and Application Library are safe from any unauthorized modifications.
