Product Overview

Canon’s two new black-and-white printers, the imageCLASS LBP226dw and LBP227dw, are intended for small workgroups, such as small departments within a larger company. They print at up to 40 ppm.

There are a few difference between the two devices. First, the LBP226dw includes PostScript printing, while the LBP227dw does not. Also, the LBP226dw has a five-line LCD display, while the the LBP227dw includes a 5″ color touchscreen control panel as well as the Canon Application Library platform.

The platform lets administrators set up one-touch button for several key functions: Print Template, Standby Slide, Scan-to-Preset Destination, ID Card Copy, Consumables Information, Copy (Eco), Copy (Bleed Reduce), Passport Copy, Fax and Store and Copy (Enhance Text). Canon introduced two new functions, which are: Languages (to support multiple language environments) and Name and Scan (the ability to add a name to a scanned file).

Both printers has the Canon Custom Processor and 1 GB of memory. First-print-out time is 5.3 seconds. Both printers support Canon’s proprietary printing language, as well as PCL. As mentioned above, the LBP226dw includes PostScript. USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi are standard. Users can directly print JPEG, PDF, and TIFF files.

Mobile and cloud printing is also supported. Users can print from their mobile devices using any of the following apps: Apple AirPrint, Canon PRINT Business, Mopria Print Service or Google Cloud Print.

More details on the device is in our Features section below.

The LBP226dw and LBP227dw are ideal for larger companies that already have Canon equipment installed and is looking for a low-printing volume device for one of its small departments. They provide robust features that help those departments improve their productivity.

Features

The LBP226dw and LBP227dw includes a 250-sheet paper tray and a 100-sheet bypass. Canon offers an optional 550-sheet tray that adds to a maximum paper capacity of 900 sheets. All paper trays accept up to 8.5″ x 14″ paper.

The output capacity is 65 sheets. The recommended monthly page volume is between 750 and 4,000 pages. Duplexing is standard.

Additional printing features are secure print, page border, header/footer, page layout, collating, booklet printing, grouping and mixed paper sizes and orientation.

The LBP226dw ships with a starter cartridge of 1,500 pages, while the LBP227dw ship with a standard toner cartridge of 3,000 pages. Canon offers a high-yield aftermarket toner cartridge that yields 10,000 pages. Unfortunately, we don’t have the information to calculate the cost per page. Aside from using the high-yield cartridge, businesses can save on printing expenses by taking advantage of Canon’s environmental features, such as duplexing.

We also want to point out that on the LBP226dw there’s an optional Auto Replenish Service subscription program that ships new toner cartridges to the user when their device emits a low-toner alert.

Security features include department ID authentication, IP/MAC address filtering and Wi-Fi authentication.

The standard limited warranty is for one year. However, users can optionally purchase one-year, two-year, three-year or four-year warranty packages to extend it.
