Torch LMS At A Glance

Good: Automated features (such as reminders to employees to complete training), reporting, and included high-touch support.
Bad: Not intended for students in the K-12 and higher education market.
Bottom Line: Best-of-breed learning management system with an easy-to-use interface and automated features.

Product Overview

Torch LMS is a cloud-based learning management system designed to help companies provide an easy-to-use training program for their employees. The solution has an intuitive interface with features located on the user’s home screen.

Torch LMS helps clients train and onboard their new employees, as well as train current employees for future leadership roles or about how to use the company’s new products. The solution also improves clients’ compliance with safety or regulatory certification requirements.

In addition to an easy-to-use interface, the benefits of Torch LMS include:

  • Best-of-breed solution that integrates to a company’s human resource management system (HRMS) or other systems through a single sign-on interface
  • Automated features, especially for ongoing training programs, so managers and trainers don’t need to create new programs or content
  • Best-in-class powerful reporting
  • High-touch ongoing support to all customers for no additional fees, rather than the service tiers other LMS vendors offer
  • Reduced costs (travel, instructors and other administrative training costs)

Despite being an online training program, Torch LMS supports blended learning, meaning trainers can combine classroom and online training into one program. Employees can access their online courses from any computer or mobile device.

Finally, Torch LMS is available in multiple languages.

Features

Torch LMS includes both user and admin functionality. Administrators can determine what features employees and managers can access. Torch LMS has user group management functionality, and training can be customized to each user group, such as specific teams or departments.

The solution provides users with a content library and authoring tools through its partner network. The course content is both SCORM and TIN CAN compliant. Managers and trainers are able to create content from any media, such as documents, video and audio. Trainers can also set up customized learning paths, including prerequisites.

Torch LMS has an assessment engine for quizzes, tests and surveys. Trainers can choose the testing method that best fits the training program.

Torch LMS’ features help employees keep up to date on their safety and compliance certifications. It provides automated reminders (including training options) so employees know when they have to become recertified. Torch LMS also has extensive reporting tools so managers can track the progress of their employees’ training. Managers can run reports either by using built-in templates or building their own custom reports.

Employees can receive certifications for each training program they complete.

Torch LMS has social learning features, such as gamification, discussion boards and blogs.

Implementation/Integration

Implementation can rage from three days to four weeks, depending on the client’s needs and requirements. Torch LMS can migrate data from the client’s former LMS system, if necessary.

Clients work with a Torch LMS product expert dedicated to their implementation, who will train and guide them during the implementation process. The product expert is also available post-implementation for questions.

Customer Service & Support

Users can contact their dedicated product expert by phone or email. They can also visit the support center to submit a ticket request, access a knowledge base, watch video tutorials, and access in-app interactive walk-throughs.

Torch LMS also provides quarterly consulting to ensure that clients are continuing to leverage the solution in every way possible.

Pricing

Torch LMS’ pricing ranges from $4 to $40 per user per year, depending on the volume of learners logging in. Support is included. Clients can opt for a bundle that includes a content library (Vado) and/or an authoring tool (Dominiknow) at a discount.

Shortcomings

Although Torch LMS can be used for teacher and faculty training, it doesn’t offer a student-facing solution in the K-12 and higher education market.

About

Torch LMS’ founder is a Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP), and he was a director of learning for 10 years in a large construction/manufacturing company. He hated the user experience of other learning management systems he worked with, loathed the lack of intuitive features and was frustrated by the lack of support.

In 2010, he wanted to create a powerful and intuitive LMS, so he founded Torch LMS.

Torch LMS has won an impressive number of awards for its automation functionality, reporting, support, user experience and instructor-led training (ILT ) functionality. Some of them include 2018 Top 25 LMS from the Craig Weiss Group, Crozdesk’s 2018 Top 10 Training and Onboarding Software, and the 2017 Brandon Hall Award for Best Advance in Learning Management Technology.
