eFront At A Glance

Product Overview

Epignosis LLC markets a portfolio of LMS software. Although we’ll briefly mention its other products, the focus of this review will be on the eFront solution.

eFront is an e-learning solution intended for large and enterprise organizations to help them train their employees. It can be deployed on-premise as a private intranet on Windows and Linux operating systems. Companies also have the option of deploying it via a private cloud that includes the ability to accommodate an unlimited number of users for a flat fee.

eFront is customizable, including a custom branded portal and a site builder. It also uses a blended learning approach, combining online training with classroom/video conferencing training led by an instructor. Companies can choose from over 2,000 courses on a variety of topics.

With its application program interface (API) engine, eFront can be integrated with many different applications. eFront is also available offline, as well as in multiple languages. (Students can download and review content in offline mode.)

We also want to briefly mention Epignosis’s other solutions. Its TalentLMS solution is cloud-based and intended for companies of all sizes. It has many of the same features as eFront, such as gamification, e-commerce, blended learning and videoconferencing support.

Another solution is the mobile app Snappico. Available as a download from the Apple app store, Snappico helps students learn by way of flashcards. Its content includes many different topics that aren’t just business related, such as philosophy, religion and art.

Features

eFront allows administrators and trainers to develop content from many sources, including SCORM- and TinCan-compliant content, Wikipedia, YouTube and other websites.

Training materials, like presentations, videos and documents, can be saved for future courses. Developers can also design a specific curriculum that requires students to take prerequisite courses.

The LMS solution includes a variety of testing methods (such as multiple choice questions) as well as the ability to generate and collect survey responses.

eFront uses a social learning approach with its discussion forums for employees to network and discuss course materials with each other and trainers. Other collaboration tools include email and a calendar. eFront also provides a gamification feature designed to make learning fun. Students can compete for points and badges, and have their accomplishments shown on leaderboards.

The solution includes an e-commerce feature for companies that want to sell their training to people outside of their organization (e.g., customers or clients). Prospective students can sign up and pay for courses via PayPal or Stripe.

Administrators can also keep track of which employees need to be re-certified or receive additional training in a certain area. Once a course is complete, employees can receive certificates that are designed and printed straight from the platform.

eFront includes an analytics and reporting functionality to help managers and administrators determine the success of a training program and areas where employees need training.

We were unable to find information on customer support for eFront, but Epignosis’ TalentLMS solution offers a knowledge base for users to find answers to commonly asked questions. Users can also contact tech support via email.

eFront has four pricing tiers that’s based on the number of learners:

  • Business (up to 1,000 learners): $750 a month
  • Enterprise (up to 2,000 learners): $1,000 a month
  • Large enterprise (up to 5,000 learners): $2,000 a month
  • Tailored (over 5,000 learners): Price is customized, so contact eFront for a quote

Shortcomings

Epignosis no longer supports an open source version of eFront.
