Edmodo Pricing: Features, Costs and Top Alternatives

Edmodo is a learning management system for schools and school districts. It’s free to use, but also offers premium accounts.

How Much is Edmodo?

Edmodo is an entirely cloud-based solution that’s available to users through a web browser in two ways.

Edmodo “Freemium”: Any student, teacher, parent or school administrator can create an account for free.

The solution operates as a social platform (similar to Facebook) to communicate announcements and assignments online. The features available for free include:

  • Unlimited document storage
  • Integration with Microsoft Office and Google Apps
  • Mobile access
  • Security and privacy tools

Edmodo “Premium”: For $2,500/school/year, all users are given premium accounts.

These accounts offer additional services and features that prioritize tracking data and serving large groups. In addition to the free features, premium features include:

  • Gamification tools for teachers to include in lesson plans
  • Advanced instructional tools for monitoring course work
  • Analytical tools for admins to track data on each teacher, class and student
  • Prioritized customer support

Other services include Edmodo Sync, where clients pay a one-time $500 fee to integrate Edmodo with an existing Student Information System (SIS). In addition, for $2,500, an Edmodo-certified trainer can give users a day of professional development at your school.

How to Reduce the Costs

Edmodo is free to use, so it’s easy to test it before buying. LMS alternatives resemble Edmodo for targeting K-12 education, and offer similar features at lower costs depending on your number of learners.

Moodle is an open source solution available to download for free. Schools can include up to 50 users for free, and premium accounts start at $190/school/year for up to 100 students. For a small school, Moodle could be a less expensive option.

Edsby is another solution that specializes in schools. It costs $5/user/year but is free for parent accounts. This pricing structure does not include all features of Edsby, and the price per user rises as more features are added.

Bottom Line

Edmodo is free to use and premium accounts allow larger schools and school districts to better analyze data. Instructors are also given unique tools for creating lessons.

While Edmodo is a popular elearning option, there are many similar LMS solutions.
