Fishbowl Inventory At A Glance
Product Overview
Users of QuickBooks know that the inventory management features within the program could use some help – enter Fishbowl Inventory.
Fishbowl was designed specifically for QuickBooks users to help fill in the missing pieces when they outgrow QuickBooks’ inventory management abilities. Its user interface is also fairly similar to QuickBooks, so users can expect a quicker learning curve. Plus, the software is housed on your company’s computer – not in the cloud – so users can make changes and manage both accounting and inventory offline.
While its best performance is when it’s integrated with QuickBooks, Fishbowl Inventory can also be used on its own. If your business is already using QuickBooks for accounting, and you plan to stick with it, then Fishbowl is a great choice. It integrates easily with QuickBooks and syncs your accounting with your inventory management for greater accuracy and clear insight into performance.
Unlike a lot of other inventory management solutions, Fishbowl is a one-time-purchase, and the original purchase price includes one year of free upgrades. After the first year, businesses will need to pay per upgrade.
Features
A few key features of Fishbowl Inventory include:
- Integration with QuickBooks – One of the most popular accounting software solutions on the market for small to medium-sized businesses is QuickBooks. Fishbowl’s ability to integrate seamlessly with this software allows users to simultaneously update both inventory and accounting data, as well as increase the accuracy of that data and maintain the ease of use they’re accustomed to.
- Reporting – Using Fishbowl’s reporting feature allows users to easily view over 100 reports, such as adjustment reports, gross sales by product or salesperson, inventory availability and more. Plus, users can create their own custom reports so they never miss trends.
- Shipping – Along with shipping label printing abilities, Fishbowl Inventory’s shipping feature allows users to track products by serial, lot and revision number with a mobile device. It also integrates well with UPS and FedEx.
- Multiple locations – As your business grows, or if you have more than one location, managing inventory can become cumbersome. Fishbowl’s multiple locations feature allows users to monitor their inventory levels by which warehouse they’re in, look at sales trends at individual locations and transfer stock between locations.

Implementation/Integration
Fishbowl Inventory is an on-premise, perpetual license software solution that’s installed on your business’s computer(s).
Perpetual licenses are attractive to businesses that can afford the up-front cost. However, even though the license is perpetual, Fishbowl Inventory only includes upgrades and maintenance for one year. After that time, users can check with the vendor about the costs of upgrades and IT support.
Customer Service & Support
Fishbowl offers live support during its regular business hours, Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. MT. One year of full services, such as upgrades and bug fixes, comes with the initial purchase price. After that, upgrades are available when customers renew their licenses.
Customer support phone calls under 10 minutes are unlimited for current license key holders. Costs for calls over 10 minutes are dependent on the number of users on a client’s plan.
Pricing
Base pricing for Fishbowl Inventory starts at $4,395. This includes permanent ownership of the software.
To receive updates and continued access to support services, users will need to renew every year. However, if your business decides not to renew, you’ll still own and be able to use the software indefinitely.
More pricing packages are available by contacting the vendor.
Shortcomings
While Fishbowl Inventory has useful features, there isn’t much room for customization. Larger customers might exhaust the capabilities of the software quite easily.
Its major feature is its integration with QuickBooks, so customers that don’t use QuickBooks might find a better value for the cost by using a program that integrates with a wider set of enterprise resource planning (ERP), warehouse management, shipping or accounting solutions.
Additionally, the up-front pricing might push some users away altogether. And, with only one year of updates included, companies should weigh the benefits of Fishbowl against another option with a monthly fee that includes constant updates.
