BambooHR Pricing: Features, Costs and Top HRMS Alternatives

BambooHR is a cloud-based HRMS solution designed for small to medium-sized businesses. It provides core HR features, such as an employee database, time-off tracking and applicant tracking, to name a few.

We’ve reviewed BambooHR and compared it with other HRMS solutions in terms of features and other attributes. This post focuses on BambooHR’s pricing model, as well as prices of two other alternative solutions.

How Much is BambooHR?

Like similar HRMS solutions, BambooHR uses the per-employee monthly subscription model. It starts at $4 per employee per month and includes these core HR features:

  • Employee database and records
  • Applicant tracking system
  • Employee self-onboarding
  • Time-tracking
  • Reporting
  • Custom workflows
  • Electronic signatures
  • Mobile app

For a company with 50 employees, BambooHR costs approximately $200 a month.

BambooHR offers optional performance management and payroll features. With the add-on features altogether, BambooHR’s monthly subscription costs $8 per employee. So, for a company with 50 employees, that price increases to about $400 a month.

Top Alternatives to BambooHR

BambooHR provides a straightforward pricing strategy so that companies only pay for the number of employees they have in the system. The pricing is scalable so it accommodates any changes in a company’s workforce.

However, for companies that want to compare prices, we’ve come up with two alternatives that are also intended for SMBs and use a similar pricing strategy.

BizMerlinHR: BizMerlin uses a similar per-user pricing strategy as BambooHR. However, it breaks down its pricing strategy in seven tiers: 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, 31-50, 51-100, 101-200 and over 200 users. For example, a business with one to 10 users can expect to pay $10 a month, while a business with 51 to 100 employees will pay $500 a month. Companies with over 200 employees can contact BizMerlin directly for a price quote.

Regardless of tier, all prices include basic BizMerlinHR modules, such as onboarding, applicant tracking, performance management, reporting tools and mobile functionality. Users can optionally add on other modules, such as its Skill Matrix. All subscriptions can be paid either monthly or yearly and also include 12 hours of implementation support.

SentricWorkforce: SentricWorkforce includes three pricing tiers that are based off of number of employees. The Starter plan costs $2 per employee/per month (PEPM) and includes employee profiles, absence management, document storage, reporting tools and performance management. The Pro plan, at $6 PEPM, includes other features such as self-service functionality, benefits administrations, and alerts and notifications. The Premium plan ($12 PEPM) includes recruiting, advanced performance management features and employee training.

Note that each pricing plan includes the Standard customer service package. With this package, clients work with both a dedicated account manager and dedicated implementation lead, and include an implementation timeline that ranges from 30 days (for payroll setup) to 60 days.


SentricWorkforce has the least expensive price out of all three vendors, although its lowest-priced tier only covers basic features. On the other hand, BambooHR and BizMerlinHR include all of their core features in their subscription price and provide a few optional add-ons.
