PaperPort At A Glance

Good: Cloud connector option, ability to edit and share PDF files, can capture scanned content from any scanning device.
Bad: Desktop product is not compatible with Macs, no version control functionality.
Bottom Line: Long-time document management solution intended for individuals or smaller businesses.

Product Overview

PaperPort is a desktop document management solution that helps organizations quickly scan, manage, and share documents, PDFs, word processing files, images, and more. It has three editions:

PaperPort 14.7 Standard is suitable for individual and home offices. By using their scanners or multifunction products (MFPs), users can convert their paper forms into searchable PDFs.

PaperPort 14.7 Professional is aimed at smaller offices or offices with a few users (although companies need to purchase one unit per desktop).

PaperPort 14.7 Enterprise is similar to the PaperPort 14.7 Professional except that Enterprise can support an entire department or organization by way of network installation.

Shortcomings

Even though there is a Cloud Connector option, PaperPort is only available as an on-premised (desktop) solution. The Cloud Connector supports Mac machines, but the desktop product is not Mac-compatible.

It also does not include collaboration features common to DMS such as version control or check-in/check-out functionality.

Awesome & Troublesome

on 2020-07-02 18:37:06

PaperPort is a great solution for organising your documents, especially if you like them in the form of PDF as I do. Trouble starts with Windows 10. It seems like PP 14 still works in Windows 10 Pro, but my favorite flat scanner CanoScan 9000F (MK II), which would still cooperate with PP14 in Windows 7, does not work at all with PP14 in Windows 10 Pro. That's a trouble, because CanoScan 9000F (MK II) is one of the most common and probably the best flat scanner small money can buy. I've got 3 of them. Obviously the Windows 10 driver is missing in PP14.
