Alteryx Pricing: Features, Costs and Top BI Alternatives

Alteryx is an intuitive business intelligence solution designed for data analysts who need to blend complex data, build predictive models and create simpler reports that can be used by companies to make more tactical business decisions.

Its efficient, data-blending workflow ensures that only the most relevant information is used for predictive analysis. A drag-and-drop interface allows users to access data easily. The software comes with a scalable, multi-platform architecture that can be deployed on-premise or in the  cloud.

Because Better Buys has reviewed Alteryx in the past, this post will focus on its pricing and that of its top competitors in the BI market.

How Much is Alteryx?

Alteryx offers two per-year subscription plans. They are:

Alteryx Designer – Alteryx’s desktop-based, design-time platform costs $5,195 per year, per user under a one-year contract. Designer’s notable features are:

  • Data blending and preparation
  • Statistical, spatial & predictive analytics without code
  • Insights sharing & reporting in multiple formats
  • Result output to multiple file formats, including Tableau, Qlik, ESRI, Excel, PDF and XML.

Alteryx Server – Alteryx’s server-based, run-time platform costs $78,975 per year, per server under a one-year contract. Its key features include:

  • Flexible server architecture for enterprise scalability
  • Analytic workflows that can be stored, shared and published in a central private repository
  • Ability to extend current processes with Alteryx APIs
  • IT tools for centralized governance and monitoring

Alteryx offers a free 14-day trial of its Designer version upon signup.

Top Alternatives to Alteryx

Alteryx bases its pricing on the annual licensing model that’s common to many BI solutions. For companies that want to compare costs, we’ve highlighted three vendors with a similar pricing structure to Alteryx.

MicroStrategy Analytics Platform: The MicroStrategy Analytics Platform leverages the Dashboard 2.0 app to provide users with real-time, actionable data about their company, such as customer service problems and profitability trends. Users can start with a free trial.

After that, they can choose any one of five deployment methods:

  • Desktop
  • Web
  • Mobile
  • Server
  • Architect

The Desktop plan is priced at $600 per year, per user. The Web platform is also priced at $600 per year, per user or $300,000 per CPU core. The Mobile tool is accessible on Android and iOS devices, and costs $600 per year, per user or $300,000 per CPU core. The Server plan costs $1,200 per year, per user or $600,000 per CPU core. The Architect deployment offers multifunctional role management, development lifecycle management, and schema development and modeling tools. It costs $5,000 per year, per user to run.

InetSoft:InetSoft is a robust BI tool that radically performs mashups of data (coming from different data sources) with Data Block technology and agile business intelligence. A free trial is available for those who want to take InetSoft for a test drive. Paid subscriptions begin at a $2,800 per year price point for a multi-user plan.

InetSoft provides several license models for organizations wanting to deploy either in the cloud or on-premise. With annual subscriptions, users are required to pay a 20% support-and-maintenance charge that includes both software updates and a 24-hour ticket response guarantee for technical support throughout the year.

Zoomdata: Zoomdata streamlines data analysis, visualization, and assessment of traditional data sources. It offers three types of subscriptions:

  • SMB Server License (for small and medium-sized businesses on a single cloud or on-premise server)
  • Enterprise Server License (for large organizations on a single or multiple servers in the cloud or on-premise)
  • Embedded License (for any size business to integrate Zoomdata with another app, deployed in the cloud or on-premise).

Pricing for Zoomdata’s SMB Server License starts at $50,000 per year. For Enterprise Server License and Embedded License pricing, contact Zoomdata directly. Thanks to a 30-day free trial, users can sample the solution in action without committing to an upfront contract.

Out of the four BI solutions reviewed, MicroStrategy Analytics Platform has the least expensive per-year subscription. Keep in mind, however, that while its initial price point is lowest, it doesn’t offer reduced pricing for more extended contracts, like Alteryx does. On the other hand, InetSoft and Zoomdata offer completely different annual subscriptions based on company size and a client’s subsequent need for technical support.

These four platforms aren’t your only options in the BI marketplace. Better Buys has featured more than 50 BI solutions for companies of all sizes.
