MindGenius 20 At A Glance

Good: Dynamic view functionality so users can view project statuses in different ways, mind-mapping tool for organizing ideas, sleek and intuitive interface.
Bad: Not intended for managing complex projects, phone support is not offered.
Bottom Line: MindGenius 20 has a unique focus on combining project management functionality with a mind-mapping tool that's designed to capture and visualize ideas about the project.

Product Overview

MindGenius 20 is a standalone desktop project management solution that helps teams manage small-to-medium-sized projects. It has a unique feature that most project management solutions don’t: a mind-mapping tool, where teams can hash out ideas surrounding a particular project or event. For example, if a team is planning an event, they can use the mind-mapping tool to discuss details, such as the number of attendees.

The mind-mapping tool includes a built-in template and image library, but users can create their own templates and upload their own images. Users can also create individual branches, connectors or shapes to further organize their ideas, and analyze those ideas with categories and filters. Maps can be saved as images or within a Microsoft Office program.

With the mind-mapping tool, project managers can create and assign individual tasks, along with the specific deadlines for each tasks. Once they have all the details of the project together, they can simply create Gantt charts for these tasks with a touch of a button.

There’s also the MindGenius Online that lets users access the software via a web browser. Users can access specific features quickly from the MindGenius Hub page, as well as manage their team’s workload with the My Projects feature. Additional features of MindGenius Online include custom task boards, QuickMaps (helps users start a Mind Map), templates, file sharing, the Timeline View and remote working capabilities.

Features

MindGenius 20 is the newest version of the MindGenius platform. It includes enhanced features, such as one-click styling, a default map template, the ability to look at icons within maps at different sizes, upgraded Picture Gallery functionality, a “Get Started” pack for new users and video tutorials from MindGenius’ YouTube channel.

Two key features of MindGenius includes dynamic view functionality and Solution Finder. The dynamic view allows project managers to switch visualizations, such as maps, tasks, Gantt or Kanban, so project managers can explore different perspectives within a project.

The Solution Finder is a guided brainstorming tool that helps teams find solutions to a problem. For example, businesses could use this feature to come up with ideas to help increase sales. The tool has eight scenarios that aid team members in laying out the facts regarding the problem. Team members can then relay their feelings about specific issues, talk out any worst-case scenarios or come up with possible solutions. Project managers can then create mind maps to come up with the tasks associated with the solution.

Other project management features include:

  • Ability to identify task dependencies and set milestones and critical paths
  • Resource management
  • Ability to present project updates using built-in presentation view
